Drivetrain Manic stage 2 - what are the must haves?
Manic stage 2 - what are the must haves?
Am not talking about the requirements (ie, uprated intercooler, colder spark plugs, decat d/p, uprated air intake) but things such as stiffer alta spring (for the dv?) or uprated clutch, uprated exhaust (min 2.5 inch), uprated hoses and so on. Would be interested to hear the forms thoughts on what to upgrade to make sure the engine runs smoothly.
The requirements are basically it. The Stage 2 tune is more or less the upper limit of the bone stock turbo and clutch. The engine will run fine and smooth, just keep on top of oil changes and regular maintenance.
I would definitely have some way of monitoring boost, AFR, intake temps, timing, etc. I use the DashCommand app on my iPod Touch with a WiFi OBD2 plugin and mount the iPod to my windshield. Gives me live readouts off all those things and more. I wouldn't be hammering it if your intake temps are above 100F. Also helps keep and eye on AFR in case you are running lean for whatever reason. Not much you can do about instantaneous lean conditions like if the fuel pump goes out but at least you can check to make sure the engine is regularly getting enough fuel.

Appreciate the reply. I had dashcommand since before but finally got round to using to check over some parameters. All fine it seems. However, I need to upgrade the clutch as it seems to on its last legs. Any thoughts on exhaust? So far I have the 2.5 decat downpipe with a custom resonator and standard cooper s muffler so might make sense to let the engine breathe a bit better.

If you're replacing the clutch anyway might as well do something that will hold more power like a JMTC or OS Giken. Username MarioKart on here is a JMTC dealer and can set you up with a clutch for your needs.
