Manic Stage 2 Map C

I’m sticking with my Manic Stage 2 tune for a bit. I just switched over to using Map C, and I can’t yet tell a difference. Admittedly, I’ve not had a chance to do a WOT pull with it, but in spirited weekend twisties, it seems to be just like Map B. (Also tried Sport vs not, still nothing noticeable...)

Any ideas?

I think it's all about peak boost with Manic maps. I top out on Map B at around 19-20 psi, and Map C I think is ~22psi.

From what I've heard Map C is advise only for if you're using 100 octane gas or have methanol injection. Otherwise the timing and boost level risks detonation on regular pump gas.

It felt underpowered on Map C. Couldn’t get the boost above 17 psi, running odd.
I just switched back to Map B, and the car is back up to snuff. 21 psi, running strong.

It seems extremely fuel dependent. I’m running 93 octane, no WMI or octane additive.

Just a guess, but based on my stage 4, when running map C you should be using higher octane than map B --- to handle higher boost, timing, etc. Map B should run safely with the higher octane, and it's probably designed to be less boost than map C. Maybe talk with your Manic installer to verify this. I'm using a manual boost controller on my big Garrett, so I set max boost manually and I don't use the ECU to control either the WG or DV. Since your map B seems to be OK, are you sure your DV and WG are functioning correctly? Maybe not responding properly to the different map requirements?

As thebombardier suggests, next time you need gas, try a 5 gal can of 100 or higher octane with map C --- available at some auto parts stores. Run it long enough to purge the lines of 93 before any WOT. Let us know how it works?

It may also be sensing knock and pulling timing and boost but I think you'd get a CEL with that.

I'd think so, also. No CEL at all.

I'm very confident in the DV and WG doing the right thing, otherwise it would give issues on Map B (at 21+ psi). The DV is the Turbosmart Plumbback (with the electronic bypass for the sensor).

Map C just felt low-powered all the way up the band... very curious. Immediate (better!) impact when I switched back to B... I'm suspecting fuel, and I'll give the 5 gal 100 octane idea a try.

Buzz is headed for the shop this afternoon for an oil change and a routine look-over: I've got business in Knoxville tomorrow, so afterward I'll be winding my way back to Atlanta via 129, slaying the Dragon, Cherohola, Wolf Pen Gap, etc.

Just a thought, have you changed your DV? Or upgraded the spring? You might not be able to hold the potential of map C. Then again, this might not have anything to do with it. Try a higher octane gasoline. That idea seems pretty good.

I run map C and seem to have no problems. Best of luck!

Even if it was the fuel though the only way the car can sense bad/low octane gas is if it senses knock. I think only above a certain level of knock will it throw a CEL, also there are talkings the Manic maps dumb down the knock sensors a bit so they don't throw a CEL on lower levels of knock.

Either way higher octane gas will fix it though. Until then just leave it at Map B.

I would get WMI. Best investment for these Mini's. Keeps things cool, clean and prevents detonation.

Agreed. Got my Aquamist system sorted today and loaded it with 100% methanol. Watched my intake temps drop from 82F to 64F through second gear on my DashCommand app on my way home from work today.

I have the hfs3 and have been running in mapB. Think my jcw turbo is maxed out at 244WHP lol

I just had Manic stage 2 installed today and made good power on the dyno. Using map C and 100 RON gas. However, on a high speed pull (125 mph+) in 6th gear I had like a misfire/loss in power. I tried again and didn't misfire again but made a strange rattling/knocking noise. Slowed down and didn't happen again. Any idea what this could be?

I would say possibly the spark plugs need a smaller gap with the extra boost. And colder plugs there already have a smaller gap. Forget the part number.

Manic usually recommends NGK1422 w/factory gap ---0.6mm. These are heat range 8, while OEM plugs are heat range 7.

lol

the tune will demand more out of the stock high pressure fuel pump, injectors and ignition coils....could just be stretching her legs i would get some sort of obd2 device to monitor a few perimeters

I spoke to the guy who installed the remap. He thinks that it could be my forge air-intake -> turbo hose that could be collapsing under heavy load. I think this seems unlikely though as it only happened that one time during the high-speed run.
