I bought an HPS short ram intake. So when I got it in the mail today I was pretty excited to install it. I opened the box and pulled it outI noticed there is a tube (about .5" diameter and 2" long) sticking out of the side. Im not really sure what its for, or why its there. Does anyone know what its purpose would be?

Someone will probably have an answer for you, but it might help to ID the tube if you can post a pic or two.

 

 

that's to route the oil from the vapors in the PCV system into the intake to be burned in the engine and deposited on the intercooler

 

Cut a hole in the black plastic 'wall" that isolates your braking parts (CAREFUL) and form a apiece of sheetmetal into a scoop that fits onto the factory outlet. Orciari of Italy used to sell abeautiful piece for this purpose and I imagine you could find this on theweb somewhere. Box in the area around your filter and you'll have a VERY effective forced air system. Sounds great when you get on it.
