Supercharger replaced...oil leak!

Hey everyone! I havent posted here in a while but i recently bought my 3rd R53 mini a few weeks ago. I bought the car with a bad supercharger(for a good price) I got the supercharged replaced with a used one, only had 38,000 miles and my mechanic said he changed the oil and serviced the supercharger. I drove it home and everything sounds good!

The next day I wanted to wash my car so I move it out of the garage and notice an oil leak, looks like new clean oil. I called the mechanic who did the supercharger work and he said, "I forgot to tell you that oil is going to leak for a day or 2, its the extra supercharger oil over following for the supercharger." Is that complete BS, or somewhat true?

Im waiting to see if there is anymore oil leaking in the next few days!

Thanks!

I call BS. The oil is in closed areas of the charger, there is no way for "extra" oil to get out.

And the sc oil is very unique stiff...
More like turbine oil if you have ever dealt with aircraft motors....it's thin, compared to engine oil....very unique smell too...

Your "mechanic" either didn't seal the unit, used the wrong weight oil, or has it so overfull that it is being forced past beaings/seals if the leak is in fact from the SC.

I took the car back, he took off the front of the car again to get to s/c, and it seems he didnt tighten the screw for the rear oil filling hole. Got the car back now for a few days and no more leaks!

Did they remove the SC and completely drain both sides and refill it to proper specification, or did they drain with it on the car and fill until it bled out the fill holes? If the latter, your level is still wrong.

If you had enough of a leak to notice it you lost a lot of fluid from the rear PTO of the SC, I would highly recommend it being redone correctly, chargers aren't particularly cheap..

Supercharger

Here is a handy guide on maintaining the Supercharger. It includes info on how to get all the fluid out, how much to put in, and torque settings.
