Cravenspeed SC Pulley "Collar" - Removal issue

Hey,

Recently, my 06 S shredded a belt. When my mechanic replaced it he noticed that the belt wasn't lined up on the pulley correctly.
Turns out that the pulley had loosen at some point and spun on the shaft.
When he tried to remove the Cravenspeed pulley. The bolts came out but the piece on the shaft won't come off.

Now he is a little concerned about damaging the shaft getting this pulley off.

Any advice I could pass on to him ?? The last thing I need right now is a major repair ie; a new supercharger or something. The timing couldnt be worse. He's hit it with a hammer some but he's worried bout bending the shaft.

Screw a bolt into the other holes (smaller holes) to separate the pulley from the collar.

If the shaft is Gauled up a bit, the "new" as opposed to the classic alta pulley has a mounting method that deals with an imperfect shaft...so that might be your option when off to try to get a driving car if the shaft is not perfect....(without buying a sc and eating a core charge).
My fear...someone cut the OEM pulley off...and damaged the shaft ...and that's why the craven one is having issues.

Thanks for the responses.

jgk6502 The pulley IS off of the collar. It's the collar itself that doesn't want to come off from the shaft. He tapped it a bit with a hammer thinking it would have fallen off but it appears to have welded itself onto the shaft. He assumes. Is that possible?

ZippyNH Yea I have the same fear at this point.

I told him to put it back on and I'll limp it around for now and eat a belt now n then till I can afford to replace the SC....sigh.

If you are using a new pulley anyhow why not just cut the old collar off the shaft....... sounds like it's no good anyhow, and a few people cut the stoak pulley off as to not have to buy a puller anyways. If you are careful and take your time the shafts should be fine.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will certainly have someone try that the next time I get into a shop. I just didn't trust the guy who was working on it to do anything else.

Only cut the collar enough so a small crack forms. If it didn't resistance weld itself via galling, it should just spread open with a flat blade screw driver. Otherwise pullers make the job much easier.

Hey, what would you recommend cutting this with? I plan on attempting this myself to be sure that it's done carefully.

Thanks for the input. Much appreciated.

Cut off wheel. Use the right tools for the job. If you don't have the right tools for the job, and worried about damaging anything, you shouldn't be "doing the job to ensure it gets done correctly".

The correct way IS a 3 jaw puller. Heat will make it easier. If a puller doesn't work, that's usually when cutting something off comes into play. As a last measure.

Can you get the jaws behind the hub adapter? I was of the understanding that this when just about flush to the charger? I haven't installed mine yet so I haven't seen it close. He's trying to get the shaft adapter off from a reduction pulley. He has the pulley off the adapter already.

Thanks for the info. I will be sure to try that first and / or recommend that approach to whomever makes a go at it.

Isn't heat something that you have to be careful with on the SC shaft? I remember hearing something about a seal in the SC where the shaft comes out?

Thanks for the input.

It is not seated back on the shaft where it's supposed to be. From where the belt sits, it appears to be about 1/8" out of position, if not more.
And YES the pulley comes off the collar. It's the collar itself that is being stubborn.

Oh well you might can get it off with a puller then. I wouldn't heat it. I'd be afraid of cooking a seal but that's just my opinion.

Fixed! Installed a new Alta 17% and a new tensioner. What a relief!
