Drivetrain 3k RPM flat spot?
3k RPM flat spot?
Hi everyone,
Picked up a mini the other day with a pretty good list of mods.
Among them -- air filter, header, exhaust, 15% pulley, cam, ecu tune, scan gauge.
After driving it, I've noticed when slowly accelerating (only slowly) there's a flat power spot around 3k RPM in any gear. The scan gauge reports 0 to 0.5 PSI of boost in that range. I asked the former owner, and he said it was a thing with all the cooper S's, that they just don't make boost in that range. Seems off, though.
Should I have the tune re-evaluated? It's an RMW tune.
Anyways, just looking for some general input. Also, woohoo I'm a mini owner!

As for OP's question: I have that weird spot at 3k like you mention. No tune for me. I do have a 15% pulley, JCW 380cc injectors, DDM intake, GP intercooler and a DT bypass valve.
Around 3000 is when the bpv closes...it is MECHANICAL, and is controled with a spring and engine vac...
It's just the way it is....the transition from unboisted to boosted is the flat spot.
The tune cannot change it...its not like on a turbo motor.

Someone showed me a stock Mini's dyno and it all made sense, it's exactly the flat spot I was feeling. I'm confident it's normal, and probably even more noticeable thanks to the underdrive pulley.
Now, that acceleration on the right side when accelerating... time for new CV axles.
