R56 Mini Cooper S Resonator Delete - YouTube
Was that bad boy warmed up? Only pops and crackles when it's up to temp. Not a huge difference but definitely noticable in sport and regular mode IMO, I have a '12 MCS. Pops and crackles louder yet still no drone at higher speeds, costs under $100 and you keep the stock look, which I prefer. Aftermarkets are expensive and provide little gains on a stocker. The more I drove mine after I had it removed, the more I appreciated it. There are some pretty nice sounding youtube examples out there, sounds like yours is cold.

She was very warm I was driving her all night when I randomly pulled into the parking lot to make that video, I was commenting on a lot of YouTube videos of the resonator delete and a lot of the feedback I was getting was the 2011 and up mini Cooper sports have some sort of program in the ECU that is different from my year and creates the crackling and popping under de-acceleration. :/

Ahh, that be it then. Either way, it still sounds good, better than stock. I can't think of very many 4 cylinder exhausts that sound a good as an MCS, even if it doesn't have the pops. GTI/Focus-Fiesta ST, don't sound nearly as good with the res delete IMO.

Resonator Delete

I still have the resonator at this time and I had the pop and crackle in the exhaust on deceleration. I had the intake valves walnut shell cleaned and the pop and crackle of the exhaust is now gone. I have NO IDEA why it is gone but that is all that has changed on my car. 2008 mini S.

Do you remember all the hardware you got? Did you just go buy some piping and clamps or what? I wanna do the delete's myself, but have yet to find a how, as far as what is exactly needed and length and what not.

Thanks! I think I've watched a hundred YouTube videos and hadn't found one that shows the resonator delete, and then the resonator and cat delete on a 2007-10 car so I could compare! Excellent work!

Have you noticed any torque or low end power loss with the resonator and 2nd cat gone? Some have mentioned it, but it seems unlikely to me on such a short run of pipe.

what did you use to do your second cat delete? I ordered a cat back exhaust and did a catless dp but I cannot find anything presetup for the section with the secondary cat. Last resort was hollowing out the secondary cat with something like a hammer. lol i don't really want to go to a custom shop just for that.

Just came back from muffler shop no 2nd cat and resenator, all I have to say is wow, can't tell if I gained power but for sure it sounds great and I can tell the car is breezing much better I also had them do a 2.5" pipe all the way to the muffler. Love the sound and no droning at all.

How'd you get a shop to remove the 2nd cat? All of the ones I tried wouldn't touch any cat, even the 2nd one. I got my resonator deleted and it sounds a bit more rumbly and lower, but not much louder and the drone from about 2900-4000 is more noticeable, granted, it has a nicer tone to the drone now.

I just picked up all the parts to do this in my garage for 30 bucks at Pepboys. Hopefully I can get it done this weekend.

So now that i had the chance to feel the car more the verdict is love it.
before when i got to 100miles i could feel the car was like under a bunch of load like the RPM was to high but now at 120 it steal wants to go and i don't get that feeling any more sounds good and the boost and pull is just great,it is not a catless pipe or any of those by any means but is great cheap way to get more power.now will it pass state inspection is another Q.

My DIY method worked, it'll hold me over until I buy a full exhaust. There isn't a huge difference in sound, but it's nice, and it sounds awesome on a cold start.

Well, not sure how relevant, but here is my 2011 MCS with a resonator delete, and a Remus Powersound cat-back. Both of my cats are still intact, stock. I live in Commiefornia, so the cats have to stay. My other mods are in my signature. This vid was made while fully warmed up, after a good long drive up the hill. Sport mode throughout. Yeah, it sounds pretty mean, but why do my pops and burbles go away, then come back? Same temp, same run. They go away, then come back, go away again. LOL. MINI quirks, I suppose. Just enjoy the sounds when they are there.

I know I was a little close on the vid, and the 2011-up MCS injects a bit of fuel after throttle-off when in Sport mode to provide those pops and burbles. I do hear a bit more when driving and downshifting, but it still comes and goes.

Bnourai, just curious as to why the pops and burbles come and go. Seems odd to me. It is what it is, I suppose. Lol. I wonder if going Manic tune would keeps those sexy sounds "on" all the time?

With manic it will be a new venture in sound and performance, my tech dose manic tune in texas and I will be getting stage 2 shortly but then it's going to be a whole direct ball game down pipe and a new intercooler and my pipe will be replaced.this car is my DD but just can't stop messing with it,with that said I am not such fan of loudly setup cars for DD I like a nice deep smooth sound.
