Megan Intake Installed

So I ordered a Megan Heat Shield w/K&N Filter. Going to experiment with a couple different setups, so this was the first on the list. Got a decent deal on it on eBay & it sounds pretty good.

literally took me about 5 mins to install fitment is great... only "difficulty" I had was hooking up the battery clip on the side clip it has for it... other than that it was cake.

I went w/the Megan also.....it popped right in and all the holes were aligned, no issues...like Alkaidovich said it was a minor PIA getting the battery clip back on....

I have had the Megan intake on for about a year now, still works great. It is a fantastic value compared to some of the other intakes on the market.

But looking at the color of your filter it may be time for a good clean of mine.

Thanks guys - as you have all said, I think it works great. Fitment was great, and it works very similar to all the other open end intakes on the market like the Alta.

The sound is quite addicting lol but I have eased up on the throttle now and it has helped an increase in mpg (only slightly)

Think I'll stick to this for a while compared to the closed box ones like the Madness or DDM Works.

Looks and sounds great! Is it considered a "cold air" intake? It looks like the heat shield edges aren't as tall as others like Alta.

Notice any difference in performance?

Don't know if its necessarily performance, but the car just feels better.
Feels smoother, sounds nicer, breathes better - you can tell the difference before and after that the car seemed like it was restricted once you install it.

Shield is actually pretty tall, but the filter itself also sits pretty high up... I haven't seen an Alta in person... Design is pretty much the same though it seems

Okay, so you guys wanna know where that came from? Remember a couple years back, there was this guy who had an intake box that had a green foam filter? He actually had those made by Megan Racing because they were doing the private labeling for him.

He ended up making a huge order and then backing out...

They sat in the warehouse for a long *** time and the owner of Megan was going to throw them out but then this good-looking, extremely-brilliant sumbitch who worked at Megan and drove an R53 said... "Naw, let me find out what filters will fit and we can push them that way."

And he was like... "Okay."

True Story.

Either way, they fit fine... but yea, gotta pull up on that power wire to get it hooked on to the box.

Intake Mod

Inspired by the cowl upgrade Madness Motorworks sells, and a kind of similar intake mod I did on one of previous cars, I cut a section out of the cowl behind the intake filter. The idea is to pull fresh air in from the cowl vent below the windshield, but to be honest I just wanted some more intake noise.

After an hour of my day I successfully gained more intake noise, and a whole lot more supercharger whine. For being a free mod I am very happy with it, just one more reason I am glad I went with the Megan intake.

Anyone know what the name of the tube that goes from the scoop by the radiator to the airbox is called? My new to me R53 is missing that tube so it's just sucking hot air.

ECS Tuning calls it an "Intake Duct" here's a link:

Personally I would grab one from a junk yard for the price. Or close off the hole, and cut the cowl like I did above.

Yea it's a decent setup, I've had mine for a couple years now. I've added a silicone tube and also did the cowl mod. Here's how high the shield sits, not as high as the alta.
