I wish they would bring the MINI One D to the US, I'd get one asap. However, I believe there are no plans to do so. The current MINI D engine can't handle the dirty US diesel fuel (sulphur content too high), although supposedly the diesel here will be cleaned up by '06 or '07. I do believe that the MINI One D is in fact a turbo engine. Plus, it has the 6-speed Getrag tranny!

IMHO, the coolest engine to use would be the VW TDI 150 PD (150 hp, 236 lb-ft stock / 190 hp, 290 lb-ft chipped). BOO-YA!

I would love the Toyota built Mini diesel with the 6-speed tranny. Here is a pic...

And the high sulphur also prevents the manufacturers from installing the equipment required to get the engine to meet US emmissions standards. With any luck, we'll start seeing many more diesel options in 2007 if fuel prices continue to climb...

I do not believe it will be as easy as swapping engines......from the fuel tank to the front suspension, major mods would have to be done. diesel cars are on the way.......particularly if the price of fuel stays high......don't hold your breath though.......the prices seem to be on their way down......
