Hey guys finally got another MINI, went straight to defenders of speed website and almost cried to see they are no longer around! Wondering if there is something similar on the market, or what the hot filter currently is. Not a fan of Alta or K&N, I really like the DOF style.

Also wondering as far as exhaust, if I should buy a kit made for the mini, or try to get a custom exhaust made locally (is that a thing)

I like the AEM Intake as it is a closed box and utilized the hood scoop for cold air.
My exhaust is custom so you won't be alone

I liked the DOS intake because it was LOUD I could hear her scream when I hit the gas, wondering if a K&N filter would yield similar results.

Yes! the AEM Intake is pretty quiet. So I run it with a K&N Filter. Lots more flow and sound.
Get the BOV type sound with it.

Can you elaborate? (Sorry, seriously been a while and I'm car dumb at the moment) Do you mean popping stock box off, and just replacing filter, thats it? Wondering if its a subtle increase in sound or enough to meet my needs

Oh sorry.
The AEM Intake replaces the entire box. Utilizing the snorkel and the hood scoop to get fresh air. The AEM Filter it's self was pretty quiet. Switching from a DDMWorks intake that uses a K&N Filter. So I went on the K&N website and got a filter with similar dimensions than the AEM Filter. And I got my turbo noise back! That whoosh BOV Sound finally came back.
