Replace AP with BattleTune?

Has anyone replaced their AP with a new Battletune? If so, How does the car run compared to the tune you were running on the AP? better, same, worse?

Trying to figure out if it's worth uninstalling the AP, and buying a BattleTune.
I am only running Stage 1 with FMIC.

I replaced my AP with BT. I did it for tune support and future mods that an AP can't work with. With BT you can have them really dial it in. However if you are going to stay at stage 1 and your AP runs good (no pinging), then it may not be worth your money to upgrade.

After no problems for 2+ years with the AP, on occasion I am getting Max knock codes from the ECU. Seem to happen more on a coldstart when the weather was colder. This does not happen if I un-install the AP.

I have an appointment with Mini of Bedford NH to perform carbon cleanout, as I think that could be the root of the problem...

Worth considering moving to BT?

If you already have an Accessport, I'd say stay with it. You can still get a custom tune from a tuner with an Access Tuner. You can't buy a new Accessport, but they are still supported.
Why spend the money, when you already have a perfectly good tool?

I got knocking with the AP also, I got knocking with my first BT stage 3 too. But I put it on a dyno and sent BT the air/fuel ratio graph. They added fuel and the knocking is gone. That's why I like BT, can't find anyone to tune the AP's anymore...

Who still tunes MINI's using AP? I couldn't find anyone.

The same people who tuned with the AP before they stopped production of the Access Port for MINI Coopers, they didn't throw away their Access Tuners. The Access Tuner works with BMW, Subaru, Mazda, Porsche and a few other makes. Cobb, the manufacturer of the Access Port is still making them, just not for MINIs.

You could call Alta or Cobb and ask them for the names of tuners who will tune a MINI

I tried to contact OXspeed for a AP protune with no luck.

My local shop that protunes Subies and BMWs said that couldn't protune my MINI (Mach V).

I sold my AP because it was very peaky and idle was very rough. My thought was to get a BattleTune instead because of the support and no Pro tune for the AP. Turns out I spent the money I got for selling the AP on an iPE exhaust, so now I am saving up for the BatteTune.

Just returned from the Salt Lake City area --- Ziptie Dynowerks. They did a dyno tune for me using the AP pro system. There may be others out there but I haven't found anyone else willing to tune my "mess-of-mods". The dyno chart should be posted on their site within a week or so.

You might ask them about a remote tune, but they probably need access to the map you're using in addition to a datalog. It's worth a try --- I'm sold on the AP! I sent BT a request and list of mods, but never heard back from them. I suspect they're scared of my mod list.

Why would anyone be scared of your mod list?

My guess would be the Boost Cut Defenders and a Garrett pushing 29+ PSI in a MCS whose ECU is limited to 22PSI. When a tuner doesn't respond to email, it's difficult to know why. Since Ziptie responded and they're within a days drive, they got the job. And I get to keep using the AP! BT is arguably the best remote tuner out there, but it's hard to beat a dyno tune.

Strange they never replied. I have always gotten a response, even after business hours. Maybe try again?

I may ping ziptie. Thanks for the heads up!

FYI, looks like your car is on their site:

Strange indeed since your "mess-of-mods" isn't something we'd shy away from. Pretty sure we got back to you in the email, but we never heard back from you so we figured you no longer were interested in our tune.

Either way, glad you got something worthwhile through Ziptie.

Nope, that one belongs to someone else. Mine is a pure silver color.

You replied several months ago but neither of us were ready to do it. Last query was only a month or less ago, thru your web site --- no reply. EDIT: Possibly my last email wasn't sent --- I've had grief with web connections. 1st contact was to find a tuner. BT was getting popular and very busy so I was told my mod list would be forwarded to the tuner --- no more contact. 2nd contact, about a month ago may or may not have gone thru, then I remembered a thread referencing Ziptie, https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...e-and-bov.html contacted them and made an appointment. The post above by nine5Raptor is probably referring to that car.

I'm really happy with the AP, but it should be known that I've never used one of their canned tunes. 1st was a dyno tune, then a bunch of remote tunes from Jeff Perrin. Great results so I really want to keep the AP!

BT will be my 1st choice when and if AP support goes away completely.
