Just an FYI, the Alta downpipe-back system mounts the same way....uses existing hangers-direct slip on in about 1.5 hours...

oh you have never seen a riced out mini before have ya?

i see them all the time where im at, you can rice out a mini, just like someone can rice out a mustang

Personally I love the NM Engineering "Downpipe Back" exhaust. It keeps the primary cat which is the one that is monitored. (the 2nd cat is not monitored and will not throw any CEL or codes as exit measurements are only read on the primary cat ...not really sure of the purpose of the 2nd cat ...but another topic). The NM downpipe back exhaust is a bolt-on exhaust, and uses all the existing mounting points. I installed it myself in my garage in about 2hrs. --most of the time was spent jacking my car up and getting it secure to go under it. ...I liked that it was bolt on should I ever want to swap back to stock. I could not find another system that didn't require cutting and/or welding.
Interesting! I just got my 2010 MCS a few days ago and looking to do the exhaust. Just to clarify, zero emission issues with smog in Cali? I've been burned before, just wanted to double check :D
How does the NM Engineering sound? I'm looking for a deep, loud exhaust that doesn't arouse the local pd.

How does the Alta DP back system sound? Is 3" pipe too big without the bigger JCW turbo? I don't think I'm interested in the fJCW exhaust, as it's essentially just a muffler. I have a friend with a Subaru STI and he swears by his Perrin exhaust (same company as Alta), but I really like the look of the Milltek system. Some have mentioned that the Milltek isn't much louder than stock, and if that's the case, what's the point? I want it to be a bit louder without being obnoxious, and I don't want endless drone on the highway.

What you want is subjectively the best exhaust. So go custom

What do you think of the sound compared to stock?

NM is fine…. If you stay away from the down pipe, emissions will not be an issue.

Just wondering if you have listened to a milltek on an otherwise stock JCW? I did at MOTD and did not like it at all....as we have all said, exhaust sound is so subjective.

I mean, I REALLY didn't like it...

My car isn't a JCW so I'd look to listen to it on a stock MCS. I've heard mixed reviews of almost every system so I'm hoping I can hear a few different ones in person at some point.

A yes, good call. From your earlier post it sounded like you were going out to buy a milltek system sight unheard. I was really itching to get a system but waited until MOTD where there were 700 of us in the same place and I could ask folks to audition their exhaust systems...

You are correct, nothing like hearing it in person, although I will say my systems sounds exactly like several youtube postings of it...

They also make a cat-back model for R56 turbos that's about $200 cheaper...

i have listened to both the milltek and JCW exhausts and while the JCW exhaust sounds aggressive compared to the milltek, some people want stealth, others want a quiet exhaust

like i am going with a milltek exhaust because of the build i am doing with the mini(VIP but not 100% VIP since i hate slammed cars), and i want something quiet but performs better than the stock S exhaust(im also gonna run a catless exhaust so that should even things out and make the milltek exhaust sound close to stock if not slightly louder)

Interesting…. I think the Milltek sound pretty sweet! A little drone at 3000R's. I recently ordered an JM S42 K03 Turbo w/ manifold ported and porcelain coated, an a coated NM DP. Hopefully, when installed, the Milltek will yodel!
