Drivetrain CHEAP SC Air Diverter.
CHEAP SC Air Diverter.
After seeing the outrageous prices of bolt on air diverters, I decided to see if I could make one. Sure enough I did. 2.5' of aluminum J bead/ sheet rock edger, tin snips and black paint.
It appears you are missing the part of the diverter that is on the underside of the hood....so it seals to the hood.......
Can you post a pic of the underside of your hood?!

I used the stock foam blocking that comes on the hood. There's a 1/16 gap all around. So the foam sits on the ledge to seal the gap.
aluminum would be cheaper than stainless if it is just a cut and form piece with no welding.
Also easier to work with (IMO)
Decent adaptation mod for the budget conscious!
As for foam / better foam, try McMaster-Carr
It is where I order 99% of my hardware as they have about everything, excellent quality, and awesome prices on most things.
(it is a huge industrial supply company)
only problem you will have is being inundated with options and not knowing which to choose. haha. not a bad problem to have, but a problem none the less :P

There is a link to the "weatherstripping" / Bulb seals section.
Everyone who is a DIY'er should give the site a browse. The more you dig, the more you will be amazed as to the options.
Also a great place to source those "red clips" if you every break one on your vacuum

Oh, and FYI, I use metal supermarkets for my metal when I do fab work.
Metal to make one of these in 6061 aluminum would run about $15 (for a one-off).
Order enough metal to make 100 of them and that drops to
~$5 / piece
Then it would take ~ 20-30 minutes per piece to make once you have a jig set up
-> ~$10 labor
add in 40% profit / overhead costs (electricity, property taxes, equip maintenance)
and you could ostensibly make these for ~ $21 before shipping and hardware and foam.

This looks like a great link. I'll be getting 1/2" thick x 1" dense foam strip. Thanks

Thanks. I appreciate the support.
I'll see if i can get one out to you.
I just want to make a couple of them so i can get the hang of the tin snips or the dremel cutting disk. But you'll be next
