Right. But would installing a metal pipe, finned or not, into the two existing silicone hose couplers be similar enough to the NM solution which is also a hard pipe inserted into two silicone couplers? Food for thought.

I don't think the fins would provide much of a heat-sink affect either. Some perhaps, but not a lot.

I just received my Forge IC and Alta boost tube yesterday. After reading reviews, I am hesitant on installing the Alta boost tube. I can see the logic of a hard pipe being more durable or reliable over time compared to the silicone alternatives. It's just tough spending the money. I suppose at some point I just shouldn't be such a cheapskate. LOL.

Can't wait to install the Forge IC. Tune is next

You should have gotten the Forge Hot side, it is very solid. I've had it on for a year, and no issues or tears. Well worth it, for $150-160.

I'm installing tomorrow...

I haven't found any pricing near that low for the NM discharge pipe. Otherwise I wouldn't be having this conversation. I would have bought it. LOL. I haven't opened the box yet. I can still look to see what is out there. I googled the heck out of this but could not find the hot side less than $220. I picked up the Alta for $100 less than that.

I have no doubt that I would be happy with the NM solution. I just didn't want to spend much more after picking up the Forge unit.

I'll keep looking. Any suggestions on where you can find that price point?

My apologies. I did not read your reply close enough. You mentioned the Forge pipe, not a NM Eng. Yes, that pricing is consistent. I would love to find NM for that. Maybe the Forge pipe is better than Alta. Not sure. For now, I have to bite the bullet and use what I purchased. I went back and read the return policy of the site I purchased it from. They do not allow returns for a change of mind. If the fitment is not right, that might be a different story. I'll find out in a couple of days when I install it.

Cheers!

It seems too measured up perfectly in length and the overall diameter with the fins is actually just a little smaller, I’m install it today so I will give an update.

Has anyone tried to re-enforce the silicone tubes. I like the minimum connections of the one piece over NM 4 connection points. I'm thinking taking a Forge pipe and wrap fiberglass around the mid-section outside, thus preventing flex under boost. Shoot paint on it and you'll never notice it. Better yet carbon fiber for the un-limited budget crowd.

OK Guys, install the hot side resonator delete and Pre-intercooler cooling pipe.

It fits perfectly in the place of the OEM resonator with no cutting, you will need to purchase 2 hose clamps because the OEM clamps on the resonator will have to be broke off at the locking joints, the joints look like a jigsaw puzzle impression in the clamp and can be separated with a big flat head screwdriver for removal.

IMO, it work great as a resonator delete and the quality is excellent, I do feel a little better throttle response and the swoosh sound track of the turbo like the Alta on our other MINI. With regards to dropping the temp as a pre intercooler, based on running the ambient vs intake manifold temp numbers I don’t see a spread drop but it was 15 degrees hotter ambient after install. I do know metal piping does heat soak and I absolutely believe this will not with the cooling fins.

In summary, it’s another good option for deleting hot side down tube resonators.

Gotta agree with TwinCoopers. Been running this pipe for about 10k miles and I've been really happy with it. When it comes to cost the performance gain you get from an intake muffler delete makes it's damned difficult to justify the cost of the NM unit.

I had the aforementioned pre-intercooler pipe installed on my previous MINI and I have to say, for around 50$ (including shipping) this pipe functions the same way the NM set does, hose - pipe - hose basically, the intercooler muffler has a smaller diameter than the rest of the piping so replacing it with the pre-intercooler pipe does the job of creating consistent diameter piping.
