Drivetrain Eliminating powersteering?
Eliminating powersteering?
The previous owner had replaced the power steering pump 10/30/13 so according to the dealer where it was done it has a warranty until 10/30/15. My question is WHEN/IF it fails again (assuming its after the warranty has expired) can we just eliminate powersteering all together with no negative effects (other than the steering wheel being heavy)

Exactly the answer i was looking for. Thanks alot.
If anyone else is considering this, a better alternative to just looping the lines is actually de-powering the rack. You dont need to send it out to do that and pay a ton of money and have downtime, you can do it yourself!!
I used the below link on my previous car and it was very easy.

Let's see if Silence will respond to a bumped query for his Power Steering Delete Block.

I've long been planning to do this, too.

FYI the correct way to do it is to DE-power the rack itself and lube up the shaft with some good grease. Eventually whatever powersteering fluid in the rack will breakdown and its lubing properties will be degraded, so the best way is to take it a part and grease up the shaft (no pun intended).
ALSO if you choose to loop the lines the steering wheel will be harder to turn simply because the seal is still in the rack so you are trying to move fluid around when there is nowhere for it to go because the lines are looped which will result in some pressure which of course means resistance. By removing that seal in the rack you wont have this. Take a look at that link i posted, its very helpful.

Silence has replied & asked for the exact distance between the input & output banjo bolts of our steering rack. Can anyone respond precisely? Thanks.

Silence needs a donor rack. Anyone got spare junk? Here's his reply:
Yes my delete will not work, but i know I can make something that will. I will need a rack to take measurements from. Do any of you have an old one you can send me? the cost would be similar to the e30 delete... possibly a fraction higher depending on the manufacturing process.

thats the easy and inefficient way. Llike i said by looping the lines there is still fluid in the rack and the seal is still in the rack, since thats the case and the lines are looped when you turn the steering wheel it will actually be harder with the seal in than with it out because you are trying to compress the fluid that has nowhere to go :(
Granted its A LOT OF WORK but the end result is totally worth it heh.
