Exhaust decision FINALLY.

I've finally decided that the first mod I'm doing to my r53 is going to be a Scorpion exhaust. I've listened to them on YouTube and I think they sound the best.

That said, does anyone have one they're thinking of selling? It's ~$650 shipped from BavAuto in New Hampshire, so not the most expensive exhaust. I'm just curious if there is anyone closer to the west coast that is wanting to sell theirs.

Or just chime in with your $0.02 about the Scorpion exhaust. I am tres curious.

i agree with element on milltek… quality and reputation. though you might wanna check out powertone of huntington beach, ca. or in youtube to widen your variety of choices. i was in the same dilemma many months ago but went with alto's 3'' full exhaust for value and performance. scorpion still on sale?

I've been checking out loads of videos on YouTube for the last two weeks since I've bought it. There seem to be quite a few custom jobs which I would love to do, but can't afford at the moment.

The Alta was attractively priced, but I don't like the one-side piping. I'd prefer two-sided. Just seems cleaner to me. Just my opinion though. What made you go with the Alta?

I actually made a scorpion exhaust thread recently, have yet to add videos due to the weather. If you would like I could make some clips this weekend.

Would you mind? That would be really awesome and I'd totally owe you a beer if we happen to bump into each other. I've been listening/watching so many exhausts on YouTube that I can't even remember which ones I liked except for Scorpion, Borla Race, and Larini (which apparently isn't available anywhere anymore). A fresh set of videos would be really nice.

That magnaflow sounds great.

To add to the confusion, here is my Invidia.

Here is a sound clip from a 2003 R53 with Borla, no resonator with a Megan header, no idea what kind of Borla it is I'll ask the owner tomorrow.

I'll definitely record one this weekend, inside the car and from outside
After listening to the invidia video it sounds very similar to scorpion but a lot less burble. (Could be a pre 05 r53)
What sold me on the scorpion was the price, lifetime warranty, and the look. The it's too bad the invidia isn't offered with a polished tip.

Too bad your not closer to the east coast. I'll be selling a used scorpion exhaust in the next couple weeks. It is a great sounding exhaust and you will be very happy with it. I've ridden in a car with a full milltek system. I wasn't really happy with how it sounds in the car. From outside the milltek sounds great though.

Have you seen this driving video?

And here's one of the milltek for comparison.

I prefer the scorpion

I have an Alta. I bought it when their build quality was questionable, so it has a rattle that comes and goes. It does drone a bit on the highway.

If I were to get a new one, I would get a Borla (maybe the race model). Here is a great video with sound and dyno data (if only all exhausts had such complete videos as this one .. and no I didn't make the video.)

Its an 05. The exhaust itself doesn't add or reduce the amount of burble per se. The ecu controls it so all the exhaust does is amplify what is already there. Maybe thats what you meant, that the scorpion pops louder?

Agreed about the tips though. I wasn't crazy about the blue tips so I plastidipped them black. Apparently though you can just polish the blue finish off, but the tips are real titanium so they would eventually go back to blue anyways.

Maybe it's just louder than, seems like I hear it more now. My stock exhaust had a wicked leak though so it may have lost some "burble pressure."

Seconded. I'm curious to know how it would compare to buying a brand new system.

I'll probably ask $250-300 for it. I have to get it repaired before I sell it. Only reason I'm replacing it is it's not designed for the convertible. I had spacers made so it would fit. Now that I added a header to the car the position changed and it is hitting the cross braces in back. That caused a weld to break and separate. Scorpion has redesigned the system to fit the cabrio. I have the new one which is going on Thursday. Then I need to find a shop to weld the y pipe. Other than that it's in great shape.

WELL, I appreciate everyone's help on this. BavAuto just put a free shipping promotion onto the Scorpion exhaust specifically, sooooo...I'm taking it as a sign from the MINI gods that this is "the One".

*rustles around for credit card*

Well u can't beat free shipping, not to deter anyone from miniblus used exhaust but if you want the warranty on the systems it's only lifetime for the original purchaser.
