I'm installing my WMW DP tomorrow as well! I'm very interested to see how it changes the sound of my NM exhaust.

Im new to the forum and have read all posts in this thread before posting. Has anyone just gone to local custom shop and had a exhaust made? It sounds like it would be the cost effective way since its just "bling" without huge gains.

The closest mandrel bending shop near me gave an estimate of about $600+another $400 for a dp. My personal advice find a used one, my quicksilver only cost $250 used.

Hey grizld...any update or sound clip? I'm on the fence about the WMW DP...

kinda sorta. my exhaust started as an invidia q300 systems. But it was just too quiet for my taste. So I had an 'exhaust shop' (Meineke) cut out the resonator and weld a flowmaster super 10 muffler in. In hindsight, I would've saved money by just going to the custom shop in the first place and modifying my stock pipe.

The drone is quite substantial--even more so when you have a gutted interior like I do. I keep a hankerchief with me to dab the blood that occasionally trickles out of my ears.

This video is only a couple hours after having it installed. The tone has seemingly gotten a lot 'smoother' since it's had time to break in a bit. I really need to make an updated video at a speed higher than ~20mph lol.

Skip to about 1:29 to skip my yapping. Actually, I'm yapping pretty much the entire duration. sorry

No sound clip as of yet. Update though, yes. In town with the down pipe there is little difference in sound. That is until you bring it over 3k or are under a load, such as a hill or something. Once over 3k it get quite a bit louder. Again much more so when full throttle. I really like the sound. Its deeper than I thought it would be. Not too raspy either. I have noticed and few pops as I upshift going through the gear. Thats a great feeling.

Now initially with the catless WMW DP I did get a p0420 code since there was no Cat. The system would go into a reduced power mode. Not the limp mode, just reduced. Once you rev it up over 5k or so it would drop boost. So that wasn't fun . But that was quickly remedied when I got my Battle/DNA tune. The tune kept the CEL away and my car now recognized the WMW DP and ran great accordingly

Highway drone was raised by a few decibles. On a long haul it may be a bit annoying. I don't drive a whole lot of highway so its not an issue for me. Plus I'll turn the radio up if need be.

As for the craftsmanship of the DP itself, the welds looked good. Material looked of quality source. Only one thing that I was initially concerned with was where the flange meets the pipe. Hard to explain without pictures, but you have the flange that meets up with the turbo and then the pipe that is welded to the flange. On the outside the weld is perfect. No complaints. On the inside you can see the original pipe. The end is not welded on the inside. Just exposed and slightly away from the flange. I showed it to a few guys around here and they were not concerned with longevity or with flow issues. So I went ahead and installed it.

Overall I'm very happy with the WMW DP. If I had to do it again, I'd probably buy it again. But then again, I may not. I don't tend to do the same thing twice...

Honestly, I'd get a catless DP and call it a day. That's where your true gains come from.

dude, thanks for the detailed write up! increased decibels huh? It's ok I've already gone deaf from my current exhaust set up, what's a few db more.

I didn't know about that 'reduced power mode'. I was ok with ignoring a CEL...shoot, I'm already ignoring a passenger airbag light and a seat belt light that won't go away lol.

So basically, although the wmw dp is only 300 bucks, I actually have to shell out 900 bucks total to get the tune and do it right.

damn...I'm SOL until next year's tax return lol

Why is it that some buy the high flow cat which costs $750 instead of getting just the catless DP? Another example is ra2fanatic's R56S Build, the exhaust system he bought has what looks like a high flow cat. Does a high flow cat give you better sound than a straight DP?

Yes I have a 200 cel high flow car on my downpipe but it's not for sound, it's just what was offered to me at the time so could I have run catless on the system? Yeah, but I'm okay w/o the straight pipe. It'll only make the exhaust smell worse that it already does.

+1 to exhaust smell. I forgot to mention that part. Its worse than it was, but not overwhelming. At least to me anyway.

As for exhaust, the Akrapovic is by far the best. It fits perfect every time, looks awesome, and no drone.
Otherwise the NM and the Invidia are alternatives at a lower price, but not the quality the Akrapovic has.
If it's all about the sound and no HP, then how does the REMUS stack up?

Urgh I'm torn. I can't decide what to get.. I just want it purely for the sound.

How big are the tips? and is that 2.5 or 3.5 tubing?

I'm still trying to figure out why these exhaust systems cost so much. They are pretty basic. I see systems for the first gen much cheaper and there is way more too them. I wonder why if most only really give you sound we don't have an option just to change the muffler?

They are expensive because they know we want them and are willing to pay. On the other hand I guess you could say they do have some R&D behind them which they have to pay for. The cheapest I have seen is the CNT system but I bet that thing drones like biotch.

I went with the Remus axle back, it's nice. But if you're looking for a ruckus of sound look elsewhere. This one is subtle and deep. Good Luck!
