AEM CAI filter problem

Hey guys, I had mentioned my problem in another thread (and so has user Mess), but I thought I'd start a new one specific to this...

I have had an AEM CAI for my 2007 R56S for about 6 months now. I have had a recurring problem with the filter popping off of the tubing directly connected to the MAF. I will jsut randomly pop my hood and the filter will be sitting about 1/2 inch from the MAF. This is pretty concerning to me considering I have a direct connection between the outside world and my airbox and now no filter.

This has happened an uncountable number of times. Last time I posted I was just told to make sure I tightened all the way and to do it when the car was cold. I have tried every method or degree of tightening, done it while cold and while hot, and it keeps happening. Any tips short of throwing a dab of super glue on it? I'd prefer to not do this because it'll make changing the filter a little more involved then I want in the future.

Anyone else have this problem besides me and Mess???

I haven't experienced this yet. Only have had mine a couple of months, and actually love the product. I can assume you might have some oil on the tube or rubber. Try cleaning it off with some solvent next time before you put it back on. MC

I didn't clean it off with a solvent, but it was 100% dry to the touch after wiping off really well with a cloth. I can try that but I can't imagine that this constant problem is secondary to it just being slick. There's gotta be something funky with the assembly. I'm not claiming to be the world's top mechanic, but I'd consider myself a reasonably smart guy and I've been troubleshooting this for a few months now. But I'll def give it a try. 👍

Mine was a "loose" fit. I wasn't real keen on it... It had to be tightened down to get it snug. Any lube at all is going to let it slip off. Try cleaning it with a quick swipe of laquer thinner-- (careful not to soften the paint). It should make it clean and want to "stick" and not "slide."

Take a picture of the intake installed for us can possibly help us diagnose the issue you may have with it coming off. I've had it for about a year now with no issues whatsoever.

I've had mine installed since September with no problems. That being said the very first time I installed the filter, I over tightened the filter and it popped off. I was not done with the install at that time though. I found a sweat spot like Goldilocks for tight but not too tight and the filter has been solid since.

Seriously! I was pissed and laughing at the same time because I was glad it wasn't anymore more serious.

Sometimes the best approach is the most obvious. As long as it works! Motor on! MC
