Drivetrain Bolt came off of Alta supercharger pulley while driving
Bolt came off of Alta supercharger pulley while driving
Does anyone know of the hardware I will need and if any damage may have been done?
I have an Alta pulley that came with the car when I bought it. I'm not sure which version it is because it doesn't look like the V1 or V2, but it has ALTA stamped in small letters in the middle and says 15% between two of the bolts.
I was on the highway tonight and didn't notice any issues, I think the wind and radio may have covered any engine noises up, but when I took off from a stop light I could hear a nasty rattle. I pulled over to take a look and I noticed one of the bolts on my supercharger pulley was loose. I wasn't too far from home so I tried to take it easy driving back so I could grab a wrench and try tightening it down. By the time I got home the bolt had either fallen out or sheered off. It's dark out so I wasn't able to see for sure.
I'm how it worked its way loose. I've had the car for 15 months or so and I haven't done anything that involved removing the pulley. I replaced the tensioner, water pumper and SC oil about a month ago and I may have put some pressure on the pulley while trying to find a way to compress the tensioner. That is the only thing I can think of that may have caused it.
So does anyone have any information on the specs of the bolts, are they something I could get from a store, or will they have to be ordered through Alta? If the bolt broke off am I screwed? Is it possible that damage could have been done to the supercharger?
Thank you.

I would recommend either calling Alta, or just pulling one of the other bolts to get the correct specs. Even if it broke (which is less likely than it working loose), not a big deal. You'd just need to remove all the bolts and the pulley, then pull the collar and remove the bolt.
Thanks for the replies. I sent Alta an email last night, but since it was late I knew I wouldn't get a response right away. I just wanted to try and get some insight while I was waiting.
It's good to hear that there is a separate collar. I wouldn't need a pulley removal tool for that would I? There should just be the two screws inside that tighten the collar down and then it will slide off, correct?
