What should I go with

So I'm gettin 380cc injectors and I'll say this now not interested in remote tune at this time I am contemplating two options only because it's in my budget and I'm not necessarily looking for the most HP I just want to smooth out driveability with the injectors and add a couple HP
I have the basics pullies, intake and exhaust 380cc injectors(soon)

I have been offered the jcw210 tune from local dealer at $180 which I think is like hour labor? What interests me is it's oem flash, the ease of bringing it in

The shop Forman told me he's not 100% sure he can do it until I bring the car in...

Next option is using way motor works quick tune... Samedeal flash the dme to help smooth things out and add a couple HP... What interests me is I assume ways tune may be a bit more aggressive then the stock jcw210 but still safe. The costs is a bit more, and I will have to ship my ecu to way.

What would you do out of these two options

IMO, the Way tune will be better as power & will make "you" feel as if your money was well spent.

I had the same options when I got my injectors but ended up going the dealer route. Reason being that while I don't doubt WMW offers great tunes, I wasn't crazy about having to ship my ecu away. Plus the dealer was only 30min from me and I like the idea of having an oem tune. However, If I was local to Way, I definitely would have looked into one of his tunes a bit more seriously.

Andy that's the thing, I'm also paranoid about the "what if" my ecu gets lost

And I also don't doubt but if it's a safe tune will it really be more than jcw210 tune? ~$100 more worth

But the dealer is 10 min away, I guess if the foreman can't do it I'll send it out

Btw Andy how was the feeling of the jcw tune (also is there a way to verify that the shop really flashed the jcw in?)

Without driving the car, there isn't really any way to confirm whether it was done or not. But I received a bill which said "Programming encoded for JCW engine tuning kit".

Performance wise, the main thing I noticed was improved throttle response. I now don't have to run my sprint booster in as aggressive of a setting to get the sensitivity I like. Power delivery definitely seemed to have smoothen out and it really felt like it pulled slightly harder across the power band, although without doing a dyno there is no way for me to truly verify that.

I was really paranoid about sending my ecu away too haha

I think they're both off-the-shelf tunes, neither actually matching your specific car or it's modifications. I may actually go with Way on this one. Here's why:

The dealer has one JCW flash, built for one set of tuned parts.

Way probably has a bunch of saved tunes, previously made for customers with your identical mods (as they're so common). As someone who used to tune piggyback EMS' on older cars, it was very common practice, and good practice, to start your road tuning with an ECU map that was used on another car with nearly identical modifications, and modify the map slowly from there. Way won't be able to do that because he can't datalog your car while it's running, but he can at least apply a tune that's applicable to your modifications.

Way or RMW will do more for your car than the factory tune, both in power and driveability. RMW does remote tunes so you don't have to ship your ECU.

Hahah what to do ill get the injectors on first

I don't want to do a remote tune due to $$$ issues

I'll be happy with better driveability not so much most power, but I'm leaning towards way.... Kindaaaaa

To reduce worries in shipping, insure the box for about the cost of an ECU....

Here is the long and short of WHY the shop was unsure if they could get you a JCW210 tune...

There are 2 or 3 different hardware versions of ecu's (with several revisions, but basically a pre 2005, a 2005+ and I have been told the GP is also different) in the mini, with the most important change happening in 2005, with the biggest change being a couple of extra inputs, and a chip change.....results in different software. While JCW210 tunes were made avalable for pre 2005 cars as retrofits with a kit, the change was mostly a (from what I have been told) a JCW200 tune with the injector scaling and a bit more timing...kinda simplified compared to the newer ecu's.

From what I have read/been told, Way's canned tune for your mods might be a better option..certainly much more specfic to your mods.

Well if I am correct this is what it would cost from the dealer

I'm pretty sure there are used ones out there you could pick up much cheaper, although I've never looked into that personally so don't quote me on that.

You could check realoem.com for a estimate on dealer pricing....
But I am guessing from what I have heard about $1000.

Check with Waymotorworks....
I'm sure they have done so much of this they know the best way to do it...such as which shipper to use...how to wrap it (you want to limit the possibility of damage from static electricity...just like it is a computer)...

if it is you only car, you might be able to get a great deal on a rental car...I recently got one from enterprise for $20 a day...got a decent Nissan Ultima..not exactly a MINI, but sure not a Chevy Sonic either!
Then based up the rental car $$, you can decide if it makes sense to pay extra for overnight vs 2/3 day shipping...if you have another car to borrow,,,even better!! Saves the cost!!

When I went from my stock 2005 S tune to my custom tune ( there was a tune event), I can honestly say it made the car's motor feel "factory" and less "tuner"....it smoothed out, and I was much more comfortable driving it...mostly cause I was NOT worried about the ECU struggling with adaptions to my mods....sure it ran fine both stock, and with the JCW380's, but ran better after a tune to match. Makes sense!!
One more tip..be sure to have FRESH O-Rings for the the injectors...maybe even a spare set..they should be changed out ANYTIME the injectors are swapped, and it is possible to tear one..so extra (for the .25 cents) is worth it...just cause Morphy's law..LOL

Yeah...with all the cars getting parted out....I'm sure you could find one and get it reprogrammed...but still OUCH!!
