Drivetrain how would you tackle pulley install
how would you tackle pulley install
Hey guys im really close to doing my pulley install, but I wanted some insight before i jump in...
I am installing supercharger pulley and crank pulley at the same time....
however I am also going to swap out the tensioner assembly (bought a new assembly added WAY bushings and tensioner stop) and going to install a new idler pulley as well.
I am also going to swap out the crank seal while the crank pulley is off.
Ive read the How tos where you would lift the motor and access the supercharger pulley, but I was wondering what order should I go in SC pulley or Cranks...etc etc... what parts should i tackle first or last etc....start from the bottom or top
this is on a 2003 build date 2003 cooper s, I am also thinking about getting a TSW mount as well while Im at it LOL
everything seems straight forward but I figured I would ask what order I should go in to sort of streamline the whole process
also any tips and tricks would be nice too
thanks

I would start from the bottom, remove the crank pulley, gives you more access to the tensioner assm. bolts, just do the tensoiner & S/C pulley in the order that seems easier to you, then reinstall the crank pulley last.
That's just my way of doing it, the biggest thing to know is that even though it can be done other ways, using the "correct" pullers makes the job's considerably easier.

hey!
sorry to bring this back up
for the pulley install... is it necessary to take off the intake ?
just wondering Im a bit "lazy" and the alta was a bit annoying for me to get perfect fit the way I like... so if i can avoid touching it it would be nice....
ive seen bills webspace where he didnt even touch his intake just unbolted driver side mount

Pelican parts has a nice DIY for the belt tensioner replacement, let me be the first to tell you its a PITA did it last week. It will be easy to change those pulleys while you have the engine in position for the install of tensioner.

I just did my pulley 2 weeks ago. I pulled the whole air box out make getting to the trans mount bolt eaiser. Replace all the mounts while you have the engine jacked up. I just loosened the trans bolt and let the engine pivot on it when I jacked the engine up(probably not the way its is done but worked for me) I also removed the power steering fan (only 2 nuts) just to get it out of the way. The pelican artical if right on point. Last but not least use the correct tools makes it way easier.
How's the install going? Any more updates?
