JCW Remap Performance

Hi guys,

I currently have an 05 R53 with intake, 15% pulley, catback, and JCW 380s. After much searching, I managed to track down a dealer nearby that will be loading the JCW map onto my car next week. My question is what sort of performance difference should I expect coming from the stock map?

Correct me if I am wrong, but from my understanding it is more of a thing that improves drivability characteristics (i.e. power delivery, throttle response etc) as opposed to peak power? Will it have any affect on how much my car pops and burbles? I wouldn't be too happy to lose that feature! If anybody who has already done this could chime in that would be great.

Thanks

Last month I had a JCW kit installed on my 05 R53 at the dealer. Expect to see worse fuel efficiency because the map is much richer. On the same daily drive I went from 6.8L/100 if I was gentle to 7.2L/100 and from 10.0L/100 to 11.1L/100 if driven hard.

I am dyno'ing it on August 9th, and from what I've read I'll be lucky to get 188whp (with the 210hp kit).

I didn't notice an improvement in driveability, but I didn't have the CAI or 380's on the stock map (just a 16% SC pulley)

Pops and burbles are just as glorious

I hear RMW's tune fixes the efficiency nicely and is a much better map recovering 10-15hp. IMHO if you are paying a lot for the dealer to do it (it can take a few hours) you would be better off hooking up for Jan's tune.

I'm interested to hear how it works out for you, keep us updated.

Thanks for the info! They are charging me an hours labor so it will be $139, which I think is reasonable given that a custom tune and dyno time would be several times as much. Hopefully my gas mileage doesn't suffer too badly though

Fingers crossed, I'll let everyone here know how it goes.

Sounds good. Others have mentioned it's the best $100 to spend (other than the SC pulley)

Good luck!

Just got the tune done today. Initial impressions:

-improved throttle response (sport mode with my sprint booster now feels like race mode did with the stock tune)
-smoother power delivery across the power band
-feels noticeably more punchy (torquey) down low
-pop and burble is definitely still there!

Overall, good improvement for $150. I had a bit of a hard time tracking down a dealer that would do this for me, but if you are lucky enough to find one in your area and you have all the mods needed I'd say its worth the time and money.

if its around that price its great deal... ove heard dealers trying to charge some crazy amount of $300+ might as well get a rmw or way tune

Funny you say that. The first dealer I found that was willing to do it gave me a quote for that much. I was just about ready to give up on it, but I kept digging and got lucky. I've heard great things about rmw and way tunes but I don't live in the states so I'd either be stuck with a big road trip or mailing my ecu away

So I guess its reasonable to assume I'm putting down similar power figures as an actual JCW? The Alta intake makes slightly more power (I believe) than the JCW, plus the JCW only uses a pulley reduction somewhere in the neighbourhood of 11%? I don't have the JCW head, but from my understanding it only has a very mild port.

Adding some information.

My car (>100k miles) with JCW injectors, JCW tune (came with the injectors from dealer), JCW intake and a 15% pulley, dynoed 184 at the wheels on a cold 60Fish day.

Assuming a 13% drivetrain loss, thats about ~207hp at the crank. Sounds just about bang on to me.
