Open Source DME Tuning

Very interesting things happening over at the e90 forums. Seems they are close to releasing an open source flash tool for the BMW DME. Hopefully some of this might trickle down to us with the R56 platform. I've heard that the DME's are not entirely dissimilar between platforms.

Agreed, we are still a smaller market. But I'm not getting my hopes up waiting.

Now all we need is for the ability for any one of us to tune our own engines. Mine might last a week.. "Just one more click here and it should be... oh hell killed it dead"

Haha, the JDM crowd has had open source tuning for a while now. Some people prefer to go with a canned tune some like to tinker themselves.

Better than getting your hopes up waiting for another quality handheld tuner to come to market. If the OS tuner ever comes out, at least it won't cost you anything.

Yeah, but that's why I'm trying to set a date for RMW to come to Detroit Tuned. We'll have an answer sometime next week. I'm committed to making it happen. I don't feel comfortable like others sending my ECU out.

It's definitely tough coming from the Subaru world where I could pull the fuel/timing/boost tables and tweak them however I liked. I really don't like the idea of letting someone else drop a tune on my car that is optimized for their driving style, I'd much rather make potentially less power tuning myself - but have it tailored specifically to me.

If only some Chinese company would rip off the old access port design... Then I could use AccessTunerRace.

On a side note VR Tuning uses a cable very similar to my tactrix cable for the Subaru. I wonder if I can use that to download the maps?
