Fresh Air Pipe Modifications?

Has anyone thought about modifying the Fresh Air Pipe to the intake system.
When you open the hood, to the left of the driver side headlight is a fresh air pipe. It is blocked by the hood so I wonder how any fresh air actually gets in there. Has anyone thought about redirecting or cutting a hole in the hood like how people do it on the 350z? Just out of curiosity of me. The more air to the intake the better right?

I think the best mod to this would just be to buy the Defenders of Speed Cold Air Intake since is draws actual cold air from behind the cowl. I think that's why no Mini owners have cut a hole in their hood. My understanding is that it's not necessarily the amount of air but the quality of air (colder vs hot). Even with the air pipe the air being drawn in is hot (engine heated air). There's not too much room to play with in the engine bay so I doubt someone has re-routed the fresh air pipe or anything like that.

Thanks. That does make sense.
Do you own the DOS Intake?
Cutting the hole was the concern for me.

I just took mine off to clear room. The only modification I could see doing is running a filter to the opening.

No but I'm going to buy it. And they sell a pre-cut bulkhead:
