He is right. We can make a fast MINI, but in the end it is still a MINI. For the same amount or even less money you could buy/build a much faster car. You could buy a stock Ford Fiesta and it would make a better rally car with much less work.

 

If I wanted a ford fiesta I would have one.. But I don't I have a mini and wouldn't trade it for for an STI or any other rally car, plus mini has a proud rally history

 

So does toyota but you aren't going to see any new Carolas in the WRC.

I used to be like you. Figured if I threw enough money at it I could make my mini into anything I wanted. I quickly learned otherwise. So I spent my money into making it better for what it is designed for. Use it for its intended purpose and learn that way.

Take this from someone who is working on a mechanical engineering degree to pursuit a career in rally car development. Hopefully to become a driver one day. I know what I am talking about and most on the form will agree with me.

Set a goal of what you want the car to do. Better handling, more ground clearance, ect. pick one focus on that. Once you get that to where you want it move on to the next thing.

A small piece of advice, good tires are the most important thing you can buy for you car. Also, learn to drive a slow car fast, then you will be able to drive a fast car faster. I did that and it worked out pretty good.

A warning, if you go down this path, you will brake parts, you will have issues, and it will cost you money. Modified cars are like hot women, while they may be fun they are a pain.

My suggestion as for a purchase, to make your car more "rally car" like would be adjustable control arms and front and rear adjustable end links. Then a set of coil-overs with camber and caster adjustment, you may have to modify you strut towers and make sure that you can adjust them. Also make sure they can be adjusted to a height above stock. Lift the front as high as is recommended by the manufacture and then level the back to match. Then get the car corner balanced. That is the first thing you should do. Suspension is one of the most important aspects of a rally car. It also has a more reasonable price tag of about 3k.
