Drivetrain Clutch Help
Clutch Help
How ya doing, guys/girls.
I have been on this forum for a while, but I forgot all of my log-in info, so I was forced to start a new one.
I haven't driven my mini in about a year now becasue of money issues. But now I am set, and am planning on moving to California from upstate ny soon!
I'm preparing my car for the trip (New tires, brake kit, clutch). I want to get a performance clutch but kinda need help on what to get.
I know there are probably a lot of topics on this but couldnt really find the info that I need.
I found this clutch http://www.motoringwerks.com/p-3798-...wheel-kit.aspx
Does anyone have any experience with these clutches?
I know that Os Giken is the Go-To clutch kit to buy, but if I can get a cheaper performance clutch I wouldnt mind.
What is the difference between solid flywheel, light weight flywheel etc.
What are the differences between all of the stages? (1,2,3,4) What does it do for the car and power?
If it helps at all, I have the basic mods:
Alta Intake
Milltek Exhaust
Reduced pulley
Nology Wires
But I would like my car to be as fast as I can get it, really.
Thanks in advance!

Oh boy did you open up a can of worms. I hope you are ready for all the comments and advise. Here is mine. Stick with a stock clutch and stock flywheel. They are reliable. IMO there are lots of issues changing to other brands. Do a search on clutch and flywheels and you can see for yourself.
Why? Fast where? Autocross? Drag strip?

You have no mods to really warrant going this direction right now.
They are designed to handle the additional power created by modders...but lack the durability and longevity of the OEM clutches.
And while Valeo makes a single mass Flywheel, I am not impressed with the clutch/flywheel shudder and chatter during engagement as reported by some owners of this mod in my area.
+1 for both of the above posts!! I agree 100%...stay stock unless you have a very good reason NOT to. Many folks try other cluches to save a $, and get shorter life....
If you current clucth cannot hold the car when fresh, it is time to move up, but till you have 250+ hp, imo, no worries!!
