How do you build a Cold Air Intake on a 2008 2nd gen. S R56?

I was going to buy a cold air intake for my 2008 mini cooper s but I decided I'm going to have to save some $ because I want stripes on my Mini. I have seen first generation mini cold air intake builds but no second generation cold air intake builds. Has anyone here built their own if so can you give me the product name maybe even the link of the products you used. And how you did it.

What I want to go for is exactly what this guy made
. But the problem is I don't know the size the air filter cone is, what size the elbow tube is and it's diameter, what connector he used and the clamps he used. I'm scared to buy parts that won't fit together and to buy a con air filter that is to large to fit inside the mini. If know what these parts are please let me know. If you have suggestions swell please let me know.

Baby Kito has a homemade intake on his clubbie. You can check his build thread there may be something about how he did it in there. It makes his diverter valve sound great too.

Just say "no" to this one. Not worth the time and effort.

Just put in a drop in KN, save the time effort any $$. CAIs are sorta BS, and those cone filters get dirty real fast.

Adding that mesh just defeated the purpose of an air filter and your going to ruin your major intake components like a turbo. The air enters the vehicle from the front of vehicle and into the air box bottom half where the filter is placed. By putting that screen on the top half you opened up your filter box to the outside elements. Check your tubing on the your air box and follow where fresh air comes from you'll see the a 2.5" plastic tube on bottom going towards front and another on top going towards mass air sensor and and into motor.

look closer, he used a JCW box with a cone filter inside it. so no, it won't ruin the engine. it just opens up the airbox for some more noise (and "ram air" from the hood scoop if he opened that up as well). does it function as a true "cold air" who knows, none of us actually has the equipment to truly test that.
