All,
I am thinking of adding a oil catch to my MCS after seeing oil puddling in the rubber sleeves on my intercooler when I installed a boost gauge. Is there any tradeoffs if I decide to add this oil catch? Does the blowby oil help lubricate the lobes in the supercharger?

Thanks in advanced,
Carl

only downside I can see is the cost. I talked to Randy Webb and he convinced me that this will lengthen the life of my supercharger. Then I watched him install the system and saw the oil in my intercooler and was convinced I'd made a good decision.

It has more to do with not oiling up your intercooler with oil acting as an insulator and reducing it's cooling effect on the air charge. Of course high levels of oil mist in your intake could cause detonation at high RPM with high boost and a leaned out fuel level from a modified and improperly Mapped ECU. Also that mist will eventfully gum-up the throttle body and intake track runners.
What negative effects did he say it had on the supercharger it's self.?

Hey, you two speak the same automotive science language, I don't. My TRANSLATION of what he said was that this was a good thing for my car because having oil floating around where it wasn't supposed to be was not good. Talk to Randy and he can give you the physics behind this...

Thanks all,

I just purchased a Greddy 9mm Oil Catch Tank from Ebay. Got it for $65. How easy is it to install? Does anyone have installation instructions?

Thanks again,
Carl

Stupid question: how is oil getting into the intake runners/intercooler/etc to begin with?!

I've seen bikes with the crankcase breather venting to the airbox--is it the same case here?

TIA, Jeff

Don't know how, but it does. I drove my car to the Virginia pulley party and watched Randy remove my intercooler. He handed it to me and the oil was dripping out of the end -- not a lot, but enough to convince me that I'd made the right decision.
