Last Friday I rode in a MCS with the 7 piece Milltek exhaust system on it and I wanted to know the difference in audible sound between it and the new Milltek 3 piece Quickfit system. Are they the same system with the Quickfit just having 3 pieces or is the Quickfit a totally redesigned system? Is the Quickfit louder, quieter, or about the same? Just wanting a comparison before the purchase.

The only change in these two systems is the number of joints. No pipe diameter changes or internal changes to the mufflers. -Pete, Stratmosphere

Thanks Pete, I appreciate the reply. Any news yet on the Quickfit system with the new hanger arrangement? As soon as they are available I want one.

I had a sneaky idea so that Milltek can provide a proper fit ASAP. They just need a CAR in the UK on their lift. They are begging to get one. If any of you post on MINI2 or anywhere else we just need a customer to visit. I'll be ready within 2 weeks of that visit. -Pete

Pete,

Took your advice and posted on MINI2 in the general discussion forum. It has had approximately 28 views so far but no one is taking the opportunity to step up and take their MCS to Milltek. I'm not that sure about how many post-January 2004 MCS's there are in the UK but there has to be quite a few I would guess. I will keep a close watch on the thread and try to keep it on the first page of the forum so it doesn't get lost in the masses. Hopefully someone will step up. Do you think Milltek will offer any carrots so someone might step up?

Sincerely,

jason

maybe you are posting in the wrong forum..... i know most S owners don't read the general section, except for the few who REALLY like to chat.

try posting in both the Cooper S section and the Performance section.... you will get some bites i'm sure.

Milltek in the UK has an owner coming in on April 4th. So...that *should* do it as long as he shows up as planned. -Pete

I just got the notification of the response to my post on MINI2. MINI2 member "Spillers" is the person volunteering their car for the measurements.

Here is a link to the thread: http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...533#post770533

I will post some friendly reminders to the thread as the date gets closer. If this all works out I could possibly have my exhaust by the end of April? Is that right Pete?

Well. If my idea is correct, the answer is YES. I am sold out at the moment and will have more on the next SEA shipment in a couple of weeks but we are already selling that down. We should be able to sell the current system with an option change to fit the new car. Thanks for all the help. -Pete, Stratmosphere

I just had a Milltek catback put on my MCS and it sounds very, very good. You don't really notice the extra noise to around 3000 and definitely at 4000. I am fairly sensitive to loud exhaust systems. I thought the Borla Sport I drove was far too loud. At idle, you notice a deeper pitch but I would say little if any more volume.

In terms of power, the one time I did jump on it pulling out of a shopping center, I could easily feel the change. The response was much more immediate and you could feel the launch in the seat. My friends with V8's tell me this is torque. Whatever it is, I like it.

Funny thing, I recently got to use a car with the OEM exhaust. Being used to the Milltek it was an interesting experience. My wife, who was in the car, leans over and says, "there is a lot of cabin pressure with this stock exhaust". After I stopped laughing I certainly did agree. Quite shocking that the OEM system behaves like that and that the Milltek is better at removing bad while adding power. Also shocking that my wife knows what cabin pressure is now. -Pete, Stratmosphere

Opus what did you think of the Borla Sport compared to the Milltek in terms of power? I am thinking about getting an exhaust and it's between the Borla Sport, the Milltek, and the UUC. Or anyone else that has any opinions feel free to chime in. Thanks.

Tough to say cleanly since the Borla Sports also had an intake and ECU and after Tuesday, I'll be rating the Milltek with the pulley and an intake. That might be a cleaner read. I do notice the power from the Milltek under hard accelleration and on routine commuting I notice that I am not pulling the same rpms at cruising speed that I usually do. It seems generally more powerful. It doesn't feel overwhelmingly powerful. The complete package of the car I drove with the Borla Sport was certainly more powerful than mine. As I recall (and this is going back to last summer), the mod package car was not as poweful as the JCW but significantly more powerful than stock. I also remember coming away hating the Borla Sport's volume.

We've had rain and cooler temps the past two days and with the windows up, you can forget that the Milltek is there except under WOT then you get a deep, raspy growl -- that and the burbling backpressure on decelleraton.

If I had any doubts, it would have been not going with the UUC just for the sheer build quality of it. Then again, how often would I get to crawl under the car and look at it. Well probably more than I should, but then there is the added wear and tear on clothes.
