Wideband O2 Sensor Placement

Hey gang,

I'm hoping someone out there has ventured into wideband O2 territory with the R56 MCS. I'm looking at a gauge project in the off-season and this one is at the top of my list. Autometer has recommended the O2 sensor be placed 4-5 inches from the output of the turbo on the exhaust downpipe. I've opted to keep my heatshield in place so now there is an interference problem.

Has anyone set up the additional O2 sensor just below the edge of the heatshield and gotten consistent AFR readings when testing their car on the dyno? Intuitively, I don't think this will be that big of deal placing the sensor a little further downstream, but I'm curious what others have found.

Salute!

The R56 has a wideband from the factory....

Can be read with any wideband/AFR capable OBD datalogger/scan tool....Scan Gauge included. Never saw the point to spend the money on getting an aftermarket one when you already have one that gives plenty of data.

From what I know, the broadcasted OBDII data for AFR is the commanded AFR coming from the ECU. I can already read this with my Auterra DashDyno. I am under the impression the system is narrowband direct from the factory since it is such a slow reacting data parameter.

No it should be actual. The AccessPort can read commanded/target AFR as well as actual, and from what I've seen its accurate and instantaneous. It's a wideband, the car uses it to adjust AFR's, hence why you can run a ton of meth through them and it will self-adjust AFR to compensate.
