2011 MCS Alta BOV Install Question

Anyone have a 2011 MCS that has purchased the Alta BOV Spring Upgrade?

I bought mine and am attempting the install, but can't seem to really get to all the 5mm Allen Bolts.

It seems a coolant line of some sort crosses directly in front of the BOV.

The instructions say to "unplug the electrical connection" but even the installation instructions picture doesn't even look like my engine bay...

I tried to search the forums and didn't see anything on this...i apologize if i'm repeating...

any ideas?

I just installed this today. lol The oil tubing is blocking/covering the bov. The best tool to get access to the 3 bov screws is to use a 5mm hex bit, allen wrenches and a small extension bit either 3/8 drive or 1/4 drive ratchet. You will need to disconnect the intake pipe, unplug the small vacuum line. Remove the screw that holds the oil tube using a 10mm socket. You'll need to get that oil tube to move around a bit so you can get access to loosen the 3 bov screws. My bov bolts were torqued tight and hard to break loose. Careful you don't drop any screws into the engine bay! You can replace the spring without disconnecting the bov wiring plug.

Thanks for the pointers guys...I'll try it again this weekend.

Still not 100% familiar with my MINI engine yet and didn't want to go yanking on things I didn't know what they were. :-)

Hey SRhudy,
Did you figure out how to install the Alta Spring. I have the same issues with clearance you were having and just wondered how you solved it if you don't mind?

Thanks

i did, actually. had to go out and get a ball end allen set. that way you don't have to be directly on the bolt for it to loosen / tighten...they weren't expensive, but still - kind of a pain.
