Mysterious Box

I have discovered yet another aftermarket part on my 2005 MCS that I bought last year and I have no idea what its is. There used to be an M7 Plasma Booster installed which caused my ECU to fry so i'm hoping that this part has no connection to the Plasma Booster. There are no markings to indicate the manufacturer and I don't even know what this box is plugged up to? Any ideas of what this could be? I included a couple pictures of the box and a thumbnail of the M7 Plasma Booster

This is a longshot guess, since I can't see where the wires are going, and don't know the year of your car (pre and post 2003 wire colors vary according to my manual). My first thought was perhaps an aftermarket external low speed fan resistor?

No matter what it is, that's not a very elegant installation.

From the looks of it it's one of those "adds up to 15HP" boxes (that consist of nothing)
The gray wires don't look OEM, so it really depends on where those wires go.

Thanks for the feedback! The year of my MINI is 2005. I couldn't tell you where the grey wires go just by just looking because they lead back into a tube where a bunch of other wires lead into so it will probably take some in debth searching to find out. I might take it to the nearest MINI dealership which is 80 miles away, but it's worth the trip. Hopefully they can inform me on what has to be done to remove it

It is a gizmo that is supposed to boost ignition spark considerably. There are mixed reviews on it's trustworthiness and effectiveness. One respondent reported that it smoked his entire ECU. Of course that could have been caused by a cascade of other failures, who knows. Personally, I'd ditch it.

Any idea of how I would go about ditching it? Is there an easy way to do it myself or should I take it somewhere to be done? Already had to replace one ECU and I'd like to avoid repeating that experience lol

Since you opened the LOL door, I'll interject that you should cut the red wire...oh wait...too late, shoulda been the white.

Not sure about the mechanics of it. I'd follow the strange, i.e. ones that don't look like they belong, and just remove them from where ever they are connected.
