obx lsd (at the machine shop for modification, yes its getting modified) note the metal shaving left from manufacturing). ordered the stronger washers and bolts. cleaned up the edges already. bearings are in (made in USA), bought the NAPA (made in china) bearings but returned them.

more to come
more will be uploaded, wife is complaining already so she wants to be pat down . as i mentioned earlier my obx is getting modify at the machine shop, more to come on that. im still debating which clutch kit im going to use. i was driving around and found a local shop that re-works oem clutch/flywheel and can manufacture 3/6 paddle disc . right now the car is being fitted with the AW2 radiator and associated parts. the simple baffles strips for the oil pan needs to be welded on. pretty much the 03 MCS is still being driven around tilll the JCW engine and 05 tranny comes together again. more to follow......

Update on the obx lsd modification
Before i did this gutsy move on my LSD i did some reading on honda forums about thier experience on OBX LSD. Some are tracking thousands of miles without issues and there are those people that had problems with it. I know the consequence of voiding the warranty from my seller if something would happen directly or indirectly of this modification. oh well.....
to sum up the things i did before the modification i did the following.
- cleaned up the sharp edges with my dremel tool.
- i had it plastic beaded ( a guy here i believe did a glass bead and turned out beautiful)
- ordered the stronger washers and bolts.

OBX oil flow
- 1st pic, this is how the obx going to be installed in the tranny and that arrow is the point of rotation when the vehicle is going fwd.
- 2nd pic, the oil will enter in that hole (see the coil? we'll call that coil as lower coil because when the housing is standing up its at the bottom) and because of how the helical coil spins inside the housing the oil it will exit to the right (marked exit). With that said the lower helical gets all the positive flow of oil coming in. the upper coil may only get partial oil and or low flow of oil because as oil enters it exits right away.
- 3rd pic, here is the modification done to the LSD, added oil passage way. As the LSD housing spins it scoops the oil in and showers the upper coil. Because of how the upper coils spins inside it brings the oil up to the driver side drive gear.

Theory
Why did i do this? because i can .
Like i said the honda guys racked up some thousand miles w/out the issues. Some did the clean up and changed the factory washers, i'm doing that too.
On the net i saw some chewed up driver side axle gear and cooked up oil spots. My theory is that the upper helical coils don't get much positive flow of oil compared to the lower ones which drove me to do this. The issue could just be material finish from the factory but at least i know the upper coil and driver side axle gear will get MORE flowing oil thru them.
Ok guys shoot my post with bullet holes, make comments and criticism but be nice.
Some guys will be eating popcorn like this guy and just keeping an eye on this project.
Tomorrow the LSD willl be put together and bearings will be mounted.
MORE TO COME AS THINGS PROGRESS.

Quick update
Dear Diary not a whole lot done since i last posted.
- Still deciding which clutch kit I'm going to install.
- LSD is assembled, had to do double check with the driver side shaft locking C CLIP, looks like i have to either get the diver side drive gear or the drive shaft machined for the C CLIP to lock in place. Once my 03 shafts are out i will install them on the lsd to make sure the driver side locks in and won't get stuck permanently. With that said i won't close the 05 tranny just yet till everything is good with the lsd and shafts
- painted the valve cover with red wrinkle (more like orange) and man its pretty.
- welded the baffles on the oil pan.
Pretty much I'm ready to tear apart the 03 MCS and yank the engine and tranny in the next few days. Gathering all the parts and tools i need in this one man job, Wife doesn't want to get her finger nails dirty
???

Prepping 05 tranny
1st pic, re-installed useable bushing and used hi-temp silicone to isolate little movement. Make sure clean silicone around it, no more movement with silicone.
2nd pic, cleaned, measured some tranny parts and run bolts thru tap and die to clean threads. Note the 3 piece bearing
3rd pic, this was yesterday during assembly of the LSD.

Not so red valve cover
1st pic, its the only red wrinkled paint i can get anywhere but each day i look at it the more i'm lovin it. This thing is prettier than ENRIQUE IGLESIA .
2nd pic, up close and note the detail of the wrinkled finish. under the sun its noticeable and the color is redier (is that right?).

No, the spelling is redder.
But I must concur with your opinion, the look of the finished product is outstanding!

At 53k miles the JCW engine had 20, 23, 23, 19 psi (green zone) during compression leak down test considering its cold engine. During pressurization no evident of hissing noise coming from exhaust/intake ports, and coolant openings. Adjacent cylinder didn't show any air coming from the cylinder being tested. The hissing noise came only from the oil dip which tells me compressed air escapes thru the piston rings. Any engine will have some degree of air leaking thru the rings.

Interesting read. I just had my TOB grenade on me, so I have a clutch job to do. My OBX LSD just came in to my parents' place as well (can't work on cars at my place Gotta love apartments in Chicago). I ordered the belleville springs and bolts, too (from RBryant), so I'll be doing that this weekend.
Curious about the oil passages you machined into the casing. What did you tell your machinist to do? I'm sans-auto for a month, so I might as well do everything I can do the car to make sure it doesn't just die on me again. Thanks in advance.
By the way, I've noticed that although there are people on this forum who are very helpful, most tend to keep their hands clean by letting a mechanic do their work, which is why technical build-up/tear-down threads like this don't get much traffic.
