help please with unrelenting p0171 code...
Hey folks
05 r53s, forever ran with just alta CAI and AC Schnitzer full exhaust (Remus made I believe). No issues. Over the most recent summer - with a little over 40k miles, had Cravenspeed 15%, 380cc injectors and colder plugs installed at Minicorsa. Car started throwing a too rich code. Danny reflashed ecu with JCW software and verified no vacuum leaks anywhere - and it helped a little - code would still come up but with longer intervals in between.
A few months after the install at Minicorsa, I had Hubie at Mynes/ABF install 550cc injectors, a larger cam and dyno tune the ECU (202 whp). The car is a wicked beast especially if I push it hard in the high rpms. But, ever since the most recent upgrades, the SES light comes on and the code is p0171 too lean. I have a little code reader that also lets me clear the code. Sometimes the code will come back same day, others a day or two later. The longest it has stayed off is approximately 12 days. Car is a daily driver, southern California, garage kept. Code comes on with no pattern I can determine - it's happened first thing in morning after chilly night, just driving around town at normal speeds, middle of the afternoon on a warm day, after more aggressive driving. In other words, most driving scenarios seem to cause it - but not the same condition every time.
The car seems to run ok - but if I've cleared the code and it's about to come back - it seems the car does not have the same ooomph. In other words, light off, driving around I'll notice the car seems to be a little doggier. Then shazaam, the SES light goes on. However, I've left the code active for several days to see if any performance issues and in some cases even after code lights up, car will have same ooomph (seemingly) as at time of dyno tune.
So, any thoughts as to what I might be missing. It seems like a benign code, but it's still a nuisance. And, I have two other things to consider - upcoming emissions testing in the spring and if you've followed my other recent thread - I'm hoping to get a 911 in the next several months and my wife says I can't have both so the Mini will have to part our family - don't want to pass on a car with a pesky SES to a fellow motor maniac!
Thanks.
