Best Catback <$500?

Yeah, I know, there probably isn't one for less than $500.

OK, so which is the Best Bang for Buck? And for criteria:
1. maximum air flow
2. let's say we don't want to wake the neighbors when coming home at 3 a.m. from a gig.

I know you're saying $500, but why not save up another $150 and get an invidia for $650? that's what I plan on doing. Heard nothing but good things about it and they are about $650 shipped on ebay and no fitment issues.

Thanks for your post.
You might want to rethink that: only a 1 year warranty. Even OBX, on eBay for $250, has a 3 year warranty.

If I'm gonna spend 5, 6 or 700 bucks, I'd be looking to get a lifetime warranty. The Invidia looks OK in the pics, but why only a 1 yr. warranty? Do you know anyone who has one and can vouch for it's longevity?

Also, it's 2.25" not 2.5" diameter.

You get what you pay for. Save your money and get a Stratmosphere or Milltek. Or wait for a used one to come up.

You want lifetime warranty Borla or Magnaflow. Preferbably Magnaflow because it's 2.5" since all Borla systems are 2.25"

Invidia is actually 2.35(60mm), and I think it's a great system. But I got and prefer Magnaflow for future GT28R setup.

Thanks Way. I concur. There's a Stratmosphere in my Mini's future. A "used one"? Seems very unlikely. But they did have a holiday sale last year with a very nice savings over the regular price and I've written to see if they'll do one this year.

That would be great.

I just ordered the Invidia the other day. I wanted a remus or a Strat, but I just can't justify spending the $$$. Seems ridiculous to ask a grand for something that only costs a couple hundred to produce and ship. I know that there are other variables (machine cost, RnD, ect.), but if OBX can offer a system for 250 that is mandrel bent and so on. Then the max one should have to pay for a system made from the best stainless shouldn't be > $500...

Please share with us where you found an Invidia for < $500.
The Invidia does look pretty well made. But they cost over $600. And they are a smaller diameter pipe. For my situation, at 7k ft elevation, I want the larger pipe and lifetime warranty. Hope it works out for you.

Used exhausts DO come up in the marketplace now and then. Scored a GREAT deal on a Borla catback for my Justa here, like 1/3 of retail.

I spoke w/Stratmosphere today... I can't confirm or deny, but I was advised to keep an eye on their site.

I'll tell you what. I got mine after listening to a lot of MINI exhausts in person, and I kept coming back to Quicksilver. It was pretty pricey ($850-950, can't remember), but it is well worth it. I think they have something like a 25 year warranty? I get compliments on my exhaust daily.

I took a look and Quicksilver is a one-ball system: $1050, "on sale" from $1400.

I'm glad to hear you're happy with yours. Check this:

Hmm.. weird that he'd be having a whistling noise. The only thing close to a whistling noise I have is from my CAI, but that has nothing to do with the exhaust... Only thing I hear from it is sweet, sweet music. Okay- last sentence was kind of odd.

Good luck in finding an exhaust... keep your eyes peeled on the market her on NAM, there are some insane deals on exhausts!

FunkyMINI thanks for the update of Stratmosphere. I'll check with them from time to time.

If quiksilver has a raspy sound No thanks. I'm looking for the lowest possible rumble sound without any of that popping sound when you deaccelerate. I think that comes from removing the resonator. Any input??

I don't get any kind of rasping sound with mine. It's has a very nice growl to it and it's ridiculously throaty. I'll try and get a video up of the car for you all.

Was with some friends when I first got the exhaust, and I was next to a friend who had a Pontiac GTO 5.7L V8 with a magna flow on it. There were about 10 of my friends there, and every one of them said my exhaust sounded better, was deeper, and had a throatier sound. Not bad when you consider the size of the engine vs a 5.7L V8.

Shame you don't like the sound of Quicksilver. About to sell mine for $400. I love the sound but prepping my car for a potential sale/trade.
