Opinions

1st off let me say thanks in advance for your opinions/advice.
I'll start off by saying I know little to nothing about modding cars but what would you guys recommend for a CIA for my 2009 R56.
I have done a bit of research on both the K&N and the DoS systems and was leaning towards one of them.
I don't need anything over the top, just something that will give my girl alittle more ferocity to it.
I got a buddy who owns a shop to install it for me so I don't run the risk of destroying her either haha.

Again, thanks for your responses

Well the CIA having nothing to do with MINIs.

But seriously a lot of people like the DoS intake. The NM is carb legal(which is what I have). So if you live in Cali it will pass. Overall it boils down to how much you want to spend because most are just for looks as the will all net you maybe up to 5hp.

I hate to be that guy but if you do a search on this forum, you will find 100's of postings you can read through...

If you want a cheap, simple to install, performance filter, then you need look no further than simply installing a flat panel performance filter in the factory stock air box, something along the lines of an ITG will give you everything your looking for, except an increase in induction noise.

There is much discussion on this subject, but the fact remains, a turbo will suck all the air it needs, whether this be from an open or closed filtration system!

The need for a closed air filtration system is paramount, especially when subject to the hot under bonnet temperatures, and your factory stock air box, has it's own cold air feed, and has more than enough flow volume, to feed the stock turbo, all it takes is to replace the factory stock paper air filter element, with an element with good flow and particulate capture properties, job done.

I have the DOS intake, which uses a washable K&N filter anyways. It gives you the amazing blowoff sound and the cowl-induction of the cold air behind the bulkhead which made more sense to me then any of the traditional "under-bonnet" intakes (such as the nm, alta, vip, etc) because they all suck in the hot air from under the hood. PLUS the DOS uses the stock inlet tube to supplement the cowl induction. So you get all the benefits of the stock system with the benefits of a washable filter, cowl induction, and the blow off sound. Not to mention the fantastic customer support that DOS has to offer.

I've seen people say this lots of times, but it's a bit deceptive. Anything you can do to reduce pressure drop pre-turbo will help. If you are asking a turbo to produce 16psi manifold pressure, it can do so at a lower pressure ratio if you have an air intake system with a lower pressure drop (less restrictive). In other words you don't have to drive the turbo quite as hard to get the same boost.

That being said, I'm not arguing for or against any of the intake systems out there. Mine is still stock and I'm happy with it.

Unless you are looking for different underhood noises, it's pretty hard to beat the stock airbox with a better filter, ITG or AFE. Good luck.
