Drivetrain Boost Gauge install question
Boost Gauge install question
ok so i looked through the internet and this forum for a good while and really couldn't find a straight forward answer.. i was installing my boost gauge today and i used the craven speed PSIclone adapter. Got that installed no problem but when i look at the instructions from the gauge itself which is a marshall gauge it tells me to cut into the intake lines or manifold line... i can't remember exactly.. the instructions read this...
15.Run the PVC tubing through the existing breakline slot in the cowl, and then through the hole in the firewall. Make sure to secure the tubing to prevent damage from sharp edges, moving parts, or hot engine components.
16.Cut off one of the tips of an existing nipple in the rubber covering. Run the tube through this cover and then up the steering column.
This to me sounds like i should just run the pvc line from the clone through the firewall and into the gauge. ill post a picture tomorrow to be more clear but the diagram provided with the marshall gauge tells me to use this T adapter and cut into something??
sorry for the long post but if anyone knows what I'm talking about and has the answer the this i would appreciate it... like i said i make no sense ill post the picture tomorrow of the diagram i speak of
Also the read i was getting on the gauge is about 10 PSi under hard acceleration.. does this seem correct... i don't have a tune yet just and intake and exhaust
Thanks Alex

The Craven Speed PSIclone is the "tap" needed to read the intake pressures.
There's no other modifications required if the tap is installed and the boost line is attached to such.
Once connected to the PSIclone tap, route the vacuum line to the gauge through the firewall.
Remember the stock "S"-model R56's run a 0.8bar (11.6psi) boost map; your 10psi reading appears normal.

Yes run the pvc line from the clone through the firewall (the nipple they speak of) and into the back of the gauge. The pvc line will come through under the footwell of the driver side. No need for T adapter as you used the psi clone. That "taps" the intake manifold through the MAP sensor.
Overboost should yield you about 14-15psi I believe on a stock S. Normal operating you should see about 11. The gauge should have a way to reset/calibrate for atmospheric pressure.
Turn off the car and turn it on accessory mode "CEL light on" on the dash, your gauge should turn on and read 0. If its not, then your atmospheric calibration is off. Reset that and you will get a proper reading.

I had trouble trying to gain acces to the firewall, I found a way by the side wing. If you want pics, I can upload some.
And for the ''T'', ignore this. There is no boost hose, you have to use the adaptor as said before.

But I still need to wire the electrical in.. so well see how that goes
