Another Clutch Question

Hey everyone,

Im pretty sure I need a new clutch installed, although I never heard the throw out bearing make any noise as far as I know. (could this be anything else?)

Im at 126K miles so I figured I may as well get a new flywheel while im at it. Ive done a bit of research and I decided to go for a single mass flywheel and a good clutch. I looked into clutchmasters clutches but the stage two is already $500.. Thats a bit much for a college student like me.

So I was looking at Way Motor Works' Competition Clutch Kit, because Way has been extremely helpful and honest in the past.

Now my question is, will this clutch wear out quickly, and will it be much heavier than stock. I drive my car very carefully, although sometimes fast, and never abuse the clutch or let anyone else drive my car.

Thanks in advance

Have you asked Way his thoughts?
You are correct he is very helpful and AFIK he does not sell anything he does not personally know about. Way would be a very good source.

Here is one of the cheapest Kits on the market for flywheel and clutch kit combo. It works very nicely.

I read into the valeo kit quite a bit, but i like the feel of light flywheels (e36 m3 experience). Would you say the valeo kit is a little more high performance than stock? does anyone have experience with either of these kits?

im still looking for a good reliability, but i feel like the stock clutch is a little too idiot proof and feel I can handle a little more gripping clutch. all your opinions are welcome of course!

I'm also looking at all clutch options out there. Have you looked at the Exedy BMK1001FWsolid kit?

I don't want to spend $800 on parts (performance clutch/light weight FW) since labor here in WA is high. Also noise is a concern. That is why I am between the Valeo and the Exedy. I hear the Exedy solid FW is not light weight but it is 5 lbs or so lighter (I could be wrong) than the Valeo.

Good luck.

The Valeo unit is a few lbs lighter than stock but is a lot cheaper than what your going to get from the dealership and it works better. when ever you do a clutch you should replace it all at the same time so that you have correct matting surfaces. the light weight flywheel is nice for most aplications, but i have had and heard of a lot of people replacing the stage 2 CM units after a year. even tho it says it's built to race. CM has told us they are not built for what we are putting it in, so at that point we stopped selling them all together. reports of people with the stage 4 units have not had any problems, but it's a totally different clutch system. unless you plan to race the car a lot or are putting a lot of HP true the clutch, the Valeo unit works very well and is very durable. The stock unit is made by the same company, so you know they know what they are doing. i have some where around 215 in my car and race it a lot, street and hard track driving and the stock clutch in my car is working great and holds very well (89K). We can also get the Exedy Kits, but have never tried them yet based on what the customers have wanted.

Let me know if we can help.

Is it really necessary to also replace the slave cylinder when putting in a new clutch kit? I ordered the Valeo kit and the release bearing guide but I haven't ordered the slave cylinder. Do I need anything else? Anyone?

you will need the guide tube for sure. I only replace them when they need it and i say i do one in ten. you might just need to bleed it if the seals in start to leak if the piston gets moved too much. some times you don't have any option but to replace it. you can be as careful as you want, but as soon as you move it, it goes bad. and it will not matter on how many miles.
