exhaust hard to get modded

I had a day off and went to 4 yes 4 shops to get the one ball mod or a glasspack put on.

I found out no one will touch this car!

are the r53 and r52 exhausts the same?

The R52 has a crimp in the exhaust to clear some added bracing that's not on the R53. The shop that put my exhaust in had a local machine shop make up some spacer blocks to lower the braces so they would clear the exhaust pipe.

Remember, the r52 s is compatible with most any r53 part...base cabrio with most any r50.
As stated above, the crimp is what has changed to get around a brace on the convertible....

Wow. Four shops?! That's nuts! I had the local shop across from my workplace do it for me on the fly. I suggest not saying anything about a "glasspack." Instead just explain that you'd like to have the resonator removed and bypassed, and that any place that can do basic bending should be able to handle it. My shop (for stuff like this) is no specialist, that's for sure...

It may be that the current exhaust is too old to be worked on. In the northeast with salt they get weak and without enough metal, doing work on an old one will just shorten the life. No one wants to be responsible if it starts leaking right after they work on it.

No one where I live would do mine, but I heard (from other Miniacs) about a place in Baton Rouge (75 miles) that would do it. When I was talking to the mechanic, he said "as soon as you drove up, I knew what you wanted".

He's done exhaust tips on my Countryman also.

Frank is also a MINI Owner.

I got quoted 80 bucks to install an aftermarket exhaust if I buy it.

I was just going to pick up an r53 obx setup

so I can make the r53 exhaust work then eh?

oil changes are around $70. Frank uses European Spec Synthetic Oil (BMW) and MINI Original Oil Filters.
