Drivetrain Leaking Drain Plug?
Leaking Drain Plug?
The Engine Oil Pressure light came on today and I checked the oil. Almost bone dry. So I drained the oil and there was only 1.5 qts in the car. I was about to bi$ch about the dealer shorting me oil, but after I put in the new oil I noticed the drain plug is sllloooowly leaking.
I have no spots in the garage. I can only assume that the oil is slowly being leaked while driving and through the intake piping. I'm going to check my spot at work (I park in the same spot everyday).
I drive my Mini everywhere and if the temp was to get too high, a warning light would come on....I would think.
The dealer changed the oil a few months ago, so the car has had time to leak/use the oil. However, 3 qts is quite a lot to use/leak in a few months.
Question is, has anyone experienced their drain plug leaking? I know it has a crush ring/washer on the plug, so I'm assuming that is the issue. Besides that, the plug looks good.
Car has 60K on it.

The R56 S's burn some oil. Nature of the beast I'm afraid. Get an oil catch can when you have the $$.
I would also check to make sure the timing chain tensioner bolt's crush washer is not leaking while your at it.
Few weeks back there was an update for those crush washers as they were still backing out. It looks to be of the same material but no ridges to the outside of it.....
So even if you buy a new tensioner bolt, make sure to also purchase the new washer while your at it.
