which muffler to quiet down a straight pipe

so i jsut got my exhaust installed on friday. Its a stainless steel 2.5" straight pipe.
It is EXTREMELY LOUND and burbles like crazy (like a nascar car).

Now i definetly need to quiet it down a little and stop the crazy burbling.
The only mufflers that can fit are straight mufflers (like race muffler of the cherrybomb glasspack).

I was thinking of adding a cherrybomb glasspack for the moment to at least lessen the sounds a bit. and if its still too loud i would have enought place to add another.
Anyone have another suggestion/comments ?

would you recommend cherrybomb ? Flowmaster ? Magnaflow ? Dynomax ?

Thanx for the input

Try adding Hushpower II's made by Flowmaster. I have two on my car. Btw, what muffler do you currently have on the straight pipe? or do you literally have a straight pipe and no muffler?

i currently have a straigth pipe with nothing added. Basically the cat on the header (still have the OEM header) is the last piece of resistance for the exhaust.

Do you have a sound clip ?

okay, so did you remove your battery? or does the pipe just drop down before the battery box?

If you're battery box is removed, you should add a Magnaflow XL muffler. Those are 3 chambered I believe and will bring down the sound level. This is my car with the catalytic converter, two hushpowers and two magnaflow xl oval cans:

YOU CAN ADD A MUFFLER!!!!
Post cat and before the middle hanger...
just saying. Its going to be small-ish and will need to be installed at an angle to fit in the tunnel, but thats where i have mine at (5x8 oval)
this should work nicely

add a resonator (round tube) to eliminate more burble, smooth out the tone and quiet it down slightly if you want at the back of the car.
I know its the reverse of normal, but your playing with constrained space.

BAttery box wasnt changed. Simply routed the pipe on the passenger side.

Not sure a oval muffler will fit. was more looking for something round that i could just add one the straight section of the pipe

Does anyone know if cherrybomb glasspack is good ?

If you read my post that oval one i posted fits in the tunnel BEFORE the middle bracket on the exhaust (just after the cat if you have one)
With mufflers, noise reduction is all about chamber volume. The muffler i posted took at least half the decibles out of my exhaust (was a straight pipe before) and its a straight through muffler.
Mine was a 5x9 muffler which would not fit in the tunnel, but i also have a vibrant ultaquiet resonator (much better than a hushpower) that sits just after my cat

believe me, you are not going to get your noise volume issue under control and to a tolerable DD level that will not attract the cops attention without adding in a good muffler.
I orriginally had 3 ultraquiet resonators sequential, with some crazy bends, and that was still 100% un-bearable on the highway, and way to loud.
I added the magnaflow 11366 muffler, and it made it JCW level quiet with much less restriction, mild burble, and a pleasing mild rhasp at full throttle above 4.5k rpm's.

lol I would be so happy if my MINI was like that. My oneball mod makes it burble alot more and louder and I love it. Wanna trade?

Hey guys!
I too have an r52 and right now my catalytic converter was completely blown off. (didn't know that was possible) I am literally 3,000 miles over the state covering the replacement for free however the federal law mandates that it is 80,000 miles/8 years and state is 70,000 miles/7 years. According to a local mini dealer the federal law only comes in to effect if the right code appears on my sensor. the code i have is p2270 and they wont tell me if it is covered. (because of course they want money for that). SO my question is: anyone know where i can get a good deal on an aftermarket replacement?
Thanks!!!

Tell them to put it in writing on why it is not covered. I will be they say no or they have a change of heart and do it.

Tell them to fix it. They cannot charge you for the diagnosis either.
Show them this and ask for their denial in writing.

California Emissions Warranty – Under the California Emissions Warranty, vehicles certified for sale in California, and those states like Vermont that have adopted California Emissions Standards by law, have additional coverage beyond that required under Federal law. Under the California Emissions Warranty, all emissions related parts are covered for 3 years or 50,000 miles*, and a vehicle-specific list of more expensive emissions related parts is covered for 7 years or 70,000 miles*. In addition, the 8 year or 80,000 mile* coverage for the catalytic converter and engine control unit required by Federal law also applies.
*whichever comes first

Hope this helps...
