Alta Exhaust Suggestion

So I've come across a steal for a turbo-back Alta exhaust system($450). Full downpipe and everything. I was leaning toward borla, but for the money, I'll get a downpipe too for half the price as a new borla system.

Anyway, so it's off a trade in from a dealership. The guy isn't sure how many miles are on the system; came off an '07 though.

-Are used exhaust systems any troublesome? Any reason why?
-What should I be looking for when I see it?
-What exactly is the benefit of a downpipe?

According to some searching on here, I know it's a 3" system which apparently has drone at highway speeds. At least the catback does. So does the downpipe improve the sound at all? The last thing I wanna sound like is a subaru with those oversized exhaust tips (no offense, it's just not my style). For those who have it does it sound good but not too loud like those aforementioned? I have seen videos and they sound pretty good just they usually have other mods that affect the sound as well. Mine is completely stock; this would be the first mod.

Would a $450 price tag on a used Alta turboback be worth it? Hypothetically, would you guys do it? I know it doesn't increase power all that much but I'm not too into that. Yet Also, I know a OCC and suspension upgrades would probably be good first mods but this is obviously cheap relative to retail. He's also throwing in an alta turbo inlet pipe.

I appreciate all your advice; I know this was long but thank you.

It seems like it's hard to get around the drone in catbacks on these cars...that said I have an Invidia and I'm reeeeally happy with it

That's a good deal for sure. Used exhausts are OK as long as they were installed correctly the first time, the hardware is good, and everything is included.

The downpipe will add quite a bit of power, response and sound. If you would rather have your exhaust on the quieter side, I wouldn't recommend the turbo back, go for just the catback. I think the turbo back sounds awesome, especially for a Mini, but you may have a different opinion. It doesn't sound anything like a Subaru, it sounds really mean!

Also keep in mind you may get a P0420 code with the downpipe installed. It won't affect drivability though.

Alright, thanks for the opinions guys I appreciate it but I passed on it. I'll probably save up for the Invidia or Borla one. If anyone wants the it and lives in the Denver area, I can give you the info.

$450 isn't a bad deal for a turbo back system. I probably wouldn't pass this up. Then you get an AP and run a stage 2. Oh there is some power in your future. But if you want an Invidia for sure streetrays.com is selling them for around $580 with free shipping.
