Please, Need help With Header!!

Hello All,

The exhaust manifold on my 04 is starting to let go near the Cat. I thought I would buy a cheap $ Header and replace the works. Well I just bought a SUS Stainless OBX Header. Now I see that there are two on-line. One has the O2 sensor threaded on the right side and the other on the left. Will it be a Problem? One or the other? Also I plan on installing a Hi-Flow Cat, but was wondering if there was a Cat delete pipe with a threaded O2 sensor hole I could install to drive it to the shop for the Cat install?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated..

Thank you
Hattenzoom

Ps. I just bought the Header and have not received it yet. Looks like I will have seven (7) days to return it if I have to.

All of my bungs are on the left (dr. Side), as far as the test pipe if you're just driving to the shop you shouldn't have to worry about it for that short of a period.

Also make sure you do your research on the CAT the factory units have been proven to be the best as far as longevity in regards to holding up to the heat and without giving you code issues.

Is it difficult to clear the code if I through one going to the shop to get my Cat welded on? Also how do I clear the code if it happens?
I guess it's best to unplug the #2 O2 sensor and put it in a box so it does not get damaged on the way to the shop? and not just zip tie it up out of the way?

O2 sensor, yes take it off if you can.

Your local autozone or pep boy's can clear the code for you, and you might want to invest in one of their less expensive code readers ($40.00 or so) will not only read your codes but will clear them also.

Very sorry. I receved it at 6:something pm on the 18th and had it installed at 9:00am on the 19th. I can tell you that the flange was/is thick, flat and straight . The ports were/are oval, not "D" shaped, and matched the new gasket perfectly, and I do mean perfectly! Looking back I should have taken more pics. It's so pretty it's a shame that it's hidden in the engine compartment.
I already bought a high flow cat so I went ahead and installed it with that. If the cat craps out on me over time I will replace it with a stock one.
I can also say that I am truly enjoying my weekend with this new install so far.

Glad to see OBX went back to their original design with the consistent thickness of the runners.

Here's the flange view!

I took that pic because at first I got the newer steel painted version It was pretty horrible in quality, ports all messed up and probably more restrictive than the oem manifold Then I got my hand on the older Stainless Steel version which is a damn nice piece in my opinion!

So, I take it the header installed fairly easy? I think that will be one of my next mods if so. I think the OBX sounds great. Plus, it's a 4-2-1 which would be excellent for street driving.

Just have to check in and say I LOVE MY HEADER!!! Yes the install was easy. I followed the how to on this forum to a T. The car pulls better everywhere but really likes the 3 to 4.5 rpm range. Down shifting to overcome on the highway though not always needed is exhilarating! Now that the bug has really got me I have been thinking about a pulley and cam. Can someone with a pulley, cam and header setup chime in and tell me how they feel about theirs? Should I get a tune after I do all this?

Thanks

I don't have a header or cam but I have a 15% pulley. You can feel it for sure - all throughout the powerband. It is a must mod. Do that before a cam. And yes, you'll eventually want to get a tune. However, with a catback, cai, and pulley, mine runs fine without a tune.

Btw, where did you get your obx? I'm looking to pick one up.

great! I just installed an obx header, high flow cat, and resonator delete. I liked it better with just the header. the header seemed to provide some better breathing through the upper and middle rpm ranges, and also gave the exhaust a nice raspy sound without adding too much noise. Since then, I had a high-flow cat and resonator delete which is not bad sounding except for the popping sounds which were tolerable before, but now very loud and annoying in town. I'm wondering if this popping can be tuned out of the car. Seems like it could but I'm no expert. I would guess that the fueling could be leaned out when you lift off the throttle so as not to cause this. I also am guessing that it is the cause of the premature aftermarket cat failures. All of those explosions in the exhaust system could really chew up a cat I would think. Just guessing.

I love the burble and I love the high rpm raspiness. I can't stand low rpm pop pop pop pop in the center of town every time I lift the throttle. At high rpm the pops are close together and it sounds like an anti lag system on a rally car.

The high flow cat and or the resonator delete make the pops sound morek like tunks. Imagine a ball peen hammer against the cat
Sort of.
