BPV questions

My '02 MCS is about to tick over 95k miles. Recently, I've noticed some more-than-usual yoyo, issues idling smoothly, and just a less smooth power delivery. My gut is telling me to look at the BPV. So... replace with stock BPV, go with the DT BPV, or clean/adjust original one (is that even possible)?

I've heard lots of stories about the DT replacement lowering gas mileage and I'm not to keen of that. My commute is 45 miles a day, most of it at 70-75mph on the highway sitting around 8-10 inHg vacuum. What do you guys think is my best option?

I picked up a DTBPV second hand in the Marketplace, and replaced the stiff spring with the one from my OEM BPV. My boost seems to have stabilized, and my gas mileage has not changed. Use a heat gun to soften up the plastic spring housing to separate the halves without breaking the tabs. Edit: I was not able to adjust my OEM BPV so that no light was visible when looking through the throat, so i started looking for a used DT. Motor On.

With most performance mods there are trade off's for the gains. Whether it be NVH, MPG, part / engine longevity.

While I lost maybe 1-2 mpg, the DT unit fit the bill for me. But if MPG is a primary concern over performance, maybe stick with new stock unit.

for me... the stock unit with the vgs mod made it work best. I haven't tried a DT valve, but if mine breaks or i run out of things to spend money on... i may pick one up.

If you're feeling "more" yoyo then yes the problem is most likely age, and the spring has just gotten weak and the stock replacement may do the trick.

That being said the DT/BPV is a quality piece and the extra tension of the spring they use may cost you 1or 2 mpg, but I can't imagine it would be any more than that, esp. if most of your driving is highway.
Unless of course you have trouble keeping your foot off it because of how nice the extra responsiveness feals.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I might give the DT a try. Worst case, I can sell it on the marketplace and get a new stock one
