Drivetrain rev limiter style
rev limiter style
Can the "style" of the rev limiter in the R56 be altered? I guess youll wonder what do i mean about the "style"? Well i do remember that in my mini when the revs would reach 6.500 and the limiter would be put in use, it would cut them "agressivelly"/instantly (the revs) and try to raise it back again and cut it again and raise it back and so on. That would be style no1.
The other style would be to just make the revs to stop at 6.500 and not have any back n forths, just freeze them at 6.500 where the limiter would be. This would be style no2.
Im 99% certain that my mini had the 1st style limmiter which as i said would be shutting down and raising back n forth the revs. But yesterday after a techguy plugged in my OBD port an iPhone and made some checks well now the rev limiter has changed to style no2. Revs would just freeze at 6.500.
Its very strange but is this something that can be changed using the OBD port just for making calculations?

The rev limit should just peak and hold. Since both the R53 and R56 are 100% controlled by the ECU, in terms of throttle, spark and fuel, it can basically say I don't care where your foot is on the peddle I'm gonna hold revs at X amount.
if your car is auto it might kick back at redline. I cannot remember 100% for sure.

TBH I can't remember. I rarely redline a car off load.
The soft rev limit holder, (ignition cut) is the same, either in neutral (no load) or driving (loaded)
