Dyno pulls and long term use are 2 different things. I'm happy the owner has held his ground and stuck with the SC. Turbo would have been much easier, but he has a point to prove so more power to him.

In terms of daily driving I can not see this car holding up on pump gas in the current state it takes to hit 400. Even the daily cars we built in the past that could do 400 + drove around with almost a 100 HP decrease in power to keep them reliable.

Having spent time at the Dragon with the car where the owner had driven it (6000 miles round trip?), I actually do have first hand knowledge of the car. Not to mention that it has a distinctly different sound than the owners Audi and I talk to him often on the phone when he is driving it!!

Please do bring some 91 gas and it will happily be run in the car, you'll love the way it sounds and runs!!!!

PS: If ya hurry You might get to feel what 400+ HP in a Mini feels like before I do!!
Pretty recently actually and it wasn't in Irvine where the owner lives, and rarely is. In fact living just a few blocks away I have never even seen it on the road. A Mini like that would be hard to miss you'd think.

I'm no too worried about missing how 400 HP in a MINI feels. I felt that 6 years ago.

Mike. What's with the negativity? Time will tell how reliable 400hp is in an R53, it's called R&D.

Time will tell on reliability but from the reliability it demonstrated coming to the Dragon on 91, my money is on the owner!!!

You really should go over and check it out, there's more HP coming!!! That was on low boost and it's first pull...

I apologize if I came off as negative. I really do think it's cool he hit 400 HP, he's been workign at the SC power for awhile now and progress is always a nice thing to see.

It's just knowing what the R53 can and can't do makes some of us concerned about claims that a set up of this nature can be daily driven and marketed as so.

i think your right, the Owner does DD it.. oh wait... his buisness location on his website shows a housing development on google earth... funny.. its almost like to dd it all he has to do is go out to his garage, start it, shut it off and walk into his study. ...

amazing....
oh, and he drove it cross country.. whoopty do, that's what 5,6k miles? id seriously hope even the crappiest builders car could do that, if not you've got some serious issues. Now, if he leaves it as is, doesn't do one thing to it, not one engine rebuild, dd's it and puts over 60k on the motor, no issues, then tell us, other than that your just yakin on about what a car can do between engine rebuilds.
just sayin, im tired of hearing about what so and so can do with no proof of sustained, reliable day to day use, in the hot and cold for years on end.

OMG...not a DD...that makes a huge difference. I know driving to work at 60 really is hard on my car, not like the easy track time. Stop signs are even worse.

400 HP on a 1.6 liter should be good for 150K miles at least, just change the oil. Everyone knows that.. Personally, when I push my engines that hard, I do it for reliability (and of course fuel economy). The power is just a byproduct.

Congrats!

Have to say minimarks. While I understand and appreciate your enthusiasm, dangling a 400HP MINI carrot without any supportive data like some guy on a street corner flipping a sign which reads "The End of the World is Coming", will only pervey the sort of attention which will close this thread and us handing out infractions.

Keep it civil guys or it will be deep six'd.

Civil is my middle name!

There is a dyno sheet and video to support, don't want to get any infractions for posting info either. So in the interest of civility I thought it might be best to wait for the final runs are done and then get the data approved before posting it here on NAM. The present data is available but I know that it is against site guidelines to post a link or send someone to another place.

Just trying to keep the peace and still let those know here on NAM about exciting developments in our Mini community!

If the numbers are real, I do have to say good job to all who are on the build team. I will be waiting to see the graphs.

400Hp out of a single cam Honda is easy, just slap on a big turbo. 400HP from a MINI TriTec shuldnt of taken this long to get to IMO, especially with the size of the snail charger on that thing. Hope it lasts on 91, I think it would be better off running the other pump gas.

It didn't take this long to get there, it just took this long to get there in this method, there's been several 500+ and even 600+ horsepower threads if you're willing to go far enough back in the search history, twincharge was the popular path at one point. Those folks just got tired of dealing with the everybody's an expert syndrome on the forums and consequently post less having felt unwelcome.

Yep Drew, I have seen the 500HP threads, they where all turbo cars though. If I remember right though not many lasted any length of time. The 400 mark on a S/C shuldnt of taken this long because BOOST is BOOST, the parastatic losses from the belt drive of the Rotrex shuldnt be bad enough to cost that much power?

Either way I am happy to see another "Barrier" broken. It gives hope to the little guys.

The dyno I've seen on the UK forum looks a lot like a turbo dyno plot. Impressive numbers for sure, but defiantly a departure from the flat torque curve I personally appreciate.

Hmm, looks like it dosent really come alive until 4000 RPM. So it would be deasent as a DD if it was babied.
