Drivetrain 2011 MCS, still waiting on my HP upgrades to come out (*TUNE!)
2011 MCS, still waiting on my HP upgrades to come out (*TUNE!)
What's the hold up on the 2011 tune? Just curious. I'm getting ancy. I've ignorantly spent money re-doing certain mods just because I'm bored. I've been saving my mudflap install for a day when I just can't take it any more and I simply must do something to my car. I could install them tomorrow, but then what will I do when that bug hits? This is how people end up with clear tail lights and chrome wiper covers.
Seriously... what's the hold up. I need a tune asap. The Cooper S is extremely slow compared to my modded 335... come on ALTA (or others) .

Damn you 2011 people are impatient as hell. It took us 07-10 people 4 years to get a decent product for tuning. Hell it took almost 2 before people started tuning the R56. Chill out, your time will come.
If you're really that impatient, you should think about what actually goes into tuning a car. It's not just plugging it into a computer and playing around with some numbers. It takes a lot of work and knowledge to get it done right.
I just installed jcw tuning kit to my 2011 mcs, I guess it's the only tuning available for now. I plan to drive it for 3years, after the warranty I will do some aftermarket mod, should be some good tuning available at that time.
You realize your '11 runs a different engine than the N14's of the 07-10 R56's, right? Thus, that means new ECU, new parameters, new security encryptment. As its been pointed out, we waited till mid '09 to get a real tune, not a piggy back that added boost and had poor wiring harnesses. If the car is too slow and you can't deal with waiting for the ECU to be hacked, then I'd suggest a different car. The mini is not a car made to go fast in a straight line. Yea we pull sub 6sec 0-60's and high 13,low 14 1/4s, but thats not what the car is for.
I suggest taking this car to learn the car, while its quote unquote 'slow'. Its much easier to learn how your car behaves and how to drive it when its slow vs faster. It'll do you no good to have a fast car you don't know how it behaves. Its uniqueness (wheel base, wheel placement, track width, drivetrain/fwd, weight) all makes it a different animal than others.
I was told at a local MINI dealer that the JCW kit [well, at least the ECU] isn't out for the Valvetronic engines. as they have no part number. unlike others, I'm patient enough, as I just came out of a N/A, Automatic 16 second Impreza, so at the moment, it is more than fast enough. I do see the potential for the new Valvetronic engine to make some real good power, but for now, 181HP in a stock 1.6L Turbo, with no TQ steer, that's perfect enough for me
and to the OP, comparing a STOCK R56 to a MODDED 335i....apples to oranges don't 'cha think? if ya have the power bug, trade the 56 for a F10 M5, lol.
