Has anybody mounted an original Cooper S exhaust in a Cooper? Is it mechanically possible? Would be any power/torque gain?

Suggestions will be appreciated

If it is possible, you can have my stock S exhaust...

I know MC and MCS share the same engine block. Do MC and MCS share the same header? If so, then the exhaust from a MCS might fit a MC. ??? :smile:

Won't the area where the spare tire is suppose to be (in Cooper) get in the way of the Cooper S exhaust?

MCS has a battery in the boot where MC's spare tire is located. So, that might not be an issue. :smile:

Yes, the spare tire might be removed. My main doubts are the fit (it seems not to be a problem) and the power/torque gain (or loose . :???

Not a good idea for performance. There are some great exhausts out there for the cooper. you would be doing some cosmetic mods to the car to get it to fit, via the center exit exhaust. If you really want a center exit, do the rear valence and get a good muffler shop to custom make a an exhaust for you. You would loose the spare but you could run a serious exhaust with almost no bends.

I suggest you stick with the lighter exhaust on the Cooper or get a Cooper specific after market unit.

I'll follow your advice and I'll mount a lighter center muffler.

I will likely go for the Borla or RSpeed system when it is time for the exhaust. Car payments then lighter wheels and sticker tires come first. But having added onto my cars on the cheep long ago when in school I never quit looking for another way out.
I helped some people replace the exhaust on 2 MCS cars. I noticed that there is no center mufler. I have often wondered what if... take a MCS exhaust and run it to a supertrap or other performance mufler at the normal MC location. I think you could order a borla muffler with the correct intake and then ash for the exhaust outlet to match the one they make for a MC. I think this system would be a less costly way to more high midrange and top end power. It may cost some bottom end but I think the cat would act as a collector after theheader.

I dont know. Some times it is fun to come up with your own setup. Like I said it likely would not be as good as a factory system.

The stock MCS exhaust is heavy and convoluted - not that great for flow:

I would only use part of the MCS system.

I would only be interested in the pipe from the Cat to the first muffler. Use that pipe connected to an low cost straight through muffler and have the system exit at the normal MC - not MCS - position. A set up like the one I describe would be an inexpensive alternate to aftermarket free flow system. The key word being inexpensive not better.

I would like to know what kind of power changes would result and where in the power band changes would be found.

I agree that it would be foolish to put a MCS system on a MC. There would be a bunch of work required and no performance gain.
