Coolant Overfull by 16oz-Advice PLS

I just got my 2005 MCS back from major surgery after an overheating incident.

Blown head gasket-warped head-Aux Fan assy-both ox sensors-crank pulley melted/disintegrated-thermostat kit and housing.

Coolant was drained and refilled when the work was done. I get the car back and clean the old dry coolant off the tank. I want to make sure it isn't still leaking or running hot. I drove it for 20 miles, then checked the tank. There is coolant leaking from the cap. I noticed it was overfull just shy of the top of the tank.

I called the shop that did the service and they suggested running the heater for 10-15 minutes to make sure that the coolant is cycling through the system. I did and the level stayed the same.

I removed 16oz of coolant to get the level just below the max line. Is there anything else I should do now, or look for?

Thanks for the help.

Overfull isn't a big deal, assuming it's just overfilled. I'd just keep an eye on it, and perhaps bring a bottle of coolant/mix or distilled water in the car in case you see it precipitously drop. Overfilled oil can cause problems with frothing, but the coolant will just expand and fill up your overflow tank.

The cap on mine grapped out soon after an overfill and 90 mile ride home. Bottle was next about month later.....

I had used a Turkey baister to remove the excess...then forgot about having done so on Thanksgiving day.

Thanks for the perspective. I drained out some coolant. Replaced the cap. Drove it for 20 miles while keeping any eye on the engine temp via the secret code. It ran between 89 and 93 on a 95 degree day. Got back to the garage and no leaky.
