Well what a waste of an install and about a grand. I tried a 9.5 pound flywheel with a spec setup. Spinup was great but:

1. Where the heck did my torque go?... wow it takes me almost to 2nd gear to get off the line. I also could not use the engine to slow the car down under heavy braking. Just didnt work anymore.

2. Talk about some flywheel noise.... ouch between 900-2000 rpms it sounded like a MAC truck.

3. The release was either on or off

I was totally unhappy with it so this last weekend I decided to throw in the 14.5 pound version and a quaife. Wow what a difference. I am very happy although some noise still exists. Just turn up the music and dont let it idle without your foot on the pedal.

For those who dont like extra noise this is not a mod for you. Dont waste you cash on a 9.5 stick with something heaver for street/track use.

Thanks for the reality check. 9.5 pounds sounds a bit light.

How do you like the Quaife Limited slip differential? Can you make use of it in daily driving or do you need to be autocrossing or on the track?

A lightweight flywheel is going to be noisier-beware. I hope it lasts long enough for you to enjoy.

Don't some people change the clutch (sturdier race version)?

A flywheel that light doesn't work to well for a street driven car the trans that the mc comes with, it just too long. On the other hand, my rabbit has a 7lb flywheel and its a breeze to drive, but that only beccause of the supeer short tranny. I can only hit 25mph in first gear

WOW! Last time I checked it was $800 in labor every time the tranny was removed and opened. Add 2 $400 flywheels and it sounds like you have a $2400 flywheel!

The Quaife 1k which by the way is the best mod I have done so far. Wow what a difference. Daily use oh yea my DSC llight barely comes on anymore.

I did the stage III clutch also so its a bit expensive but a real nice mod. I have gotten use to the extra noise... and it really is not that bad.. sorta sounds like the gear mesche of a subaru.

Oh and the 9.5 pound flywheel toasted a stage III clutch in 2 weeks. It almost was like it slipped all the time. I broke it in nice for the two weeks I had it but it would not hold above 5k. I will post pictures of the nasty glaze.

Coop -

Did you get the carbon/ceramic pucks? They are supposed to require a 400 mile break-in period before using full throttle? Or didn't they match up to the flywheel?

Whose flywheel was the 9.5 pound and whose was the 14 pound?

I'm getting the Spec Stage III and the Fidanza 12.5 lb. Hope mine works the first time!

yes I got the carbon/ceramic pucks and did the 400 mile break in. We think there was a problem with matching cause I kept on blowing slave cyl's due to overtravel. Its like the clutch was never fully engaged so it was slipping.

The 9.5 was a MW?? cant remember the name off hand, I should get my camera out and pull the pictures off it. I installed the Fidanza and I think there is a typo on madness's site cause it was 14.5 pounds not 12.5 but I am glad.

I am very happy since its all back together with the Fidanza and the quaife is sweet!.

I also considered the phantom grip from MM but eventually got scared due to the lack of price compaired to the quaife. Not to mention I could not find anyone that had one. Anyone install it?

Coop, you might want to check with Tony Nuzzo as they are a sponsor in his Grand AM push:

He might be a bit busy this weekend in Daytona though

I thought Mugami had one, and here is the link where he says so, a little over a month back. I don't know if he's installed it yet though. You might want to ping him...
